Emilio is listed as 29 CA. He is a lodger with Edmund Rue. Bet ya a quarter you won’t find any Emilios or Hernandez in the Casa del Putnam here in the old Spanish Mexican quarter.
He is 38 NY NY NY, his wife Marie Pratt 35 CA ENG CA and their son Cecil is 8 CA. There is also a maid Nellie Kraus 40 DENMARK. He is a son of John M. Putnam and Emily Vincent, as shown in 1880 at home in Herkimer County New York. He and Mary were married here April 14, 1895. They were across the Bay in San Francisco in 1900 and will be here in 1920. New England family.

PUTNAM Berkeley, Alameda County
Benjamin Risley Putnam is listed as 37 IA. His wife, Wilella Thorington, is 30 Panama. Their son, William was born in CA, but his age is not recorded (as he is actually about a year old born here May 21, 1908). He is a son of Charles Edwin Putnam and Mary Louise Duncan. He was home in Scott County Iowa in 1880. They will be in Tulare County in 1920 and 1930.
THOMAS PUTNAM Berkeley, Alameda County
Thomas Milton Putnam is listed as 35 CA CAN CAN. His wife, Margaret Murray, is 32 CA. Their son, Murray, was born in CA, but his age is not recorded. But, me knowing everything, his age is 4 born CA. He is a son of Thomas Crowe Putnam and Maria Rutherford from Nova Scotia and then here. He was at home in Sonoma County in 1880. At that time he was listed as simply Milton. He was single teaching school in Archer County Texas in 1900. He’ll be here in 1920, but married to Madeline Blanchard from Massachusetts. He is a math instructor at the University of California.
He is 46 CA PA NY and his wife Minnie Kincaide is 42 CA NY IL. They have been married 20 years and have Ila 19 CA still at home. She was their only child. He is a son of Royal Porter Putnam and Mary Jane Packard. He was born in Tulare County June 16, 1865 and will die here in Berkley July 22, 1921. Menna will be around till she dies August 14, 1948. He has an Orange Orchard. New Englanders.

William Foster Putnam is listed as 41 CA, and is a lodger with Charles Parsons. He is a son of Thomas Crowe Putnam and Maria Rutherford from Nova Scotia Canada. He was at home in Sonoma County in 1880. He is in Redwood in 1930 married to May Kelbar.

Carrie Mistman Putman, is listed as 19 CA. There is no husband listed, but her daughter, Anita is 5 CA. Also in the household is Carrie's mother, Bertha Mistman.

Elizabeth Merrill is the widow of Lucien Putnam, Elizabeth, is 74 IN, living with her daughter Isabella (Carrie Belle) 40 MN ME IN and her husband William H. Jordan 46ME. They were all here in 1900.
ELWOOD PUTNAM Oakland, Alameda County
Clarence Elwood is listed as 15 CA. He is living with E. Spencer DuPuy, who is his grandfather, Edward Spencer DuPuy. In 1900, he was with his grandfather, but they were living in Sacramento. He is a son of Soule Augustus Putman and Susie Mae De Puy. His folks were married in Sacramento in 1894 and then divorced after they had Elwood. New England line. He is in San Francisco with his dad in 1920 and married in Monrovia, Los Angeles County in 1930.

Henry R. is listed as 46 US (MN in 1900), and is a boarder with John B. Jordan. He is a son of Francis and Elizabeth Putnam and was here with them in 1900. He was listed as Harry then. His dad died, but his mom is here living with another Jordan family. (see earlier listing).

The son of Charles Frederick Putnam Jr., Jesse A. is listed as 34 CA. His wife, Edna Hildebrand, is 27 OR. They are living with Edna's father, Newton R. Hildebrand. He was home with his folks in Redlands, San Bernadino County in 1900. They are in Humbolt County in 1920 and back here in 1930 and 1940.
KATE PUTNAM Oakland, Alameda County
Kate is listed as 61 VT, living with her son-in-law, Marquis Hadley. Very possibly the widow of Dr. Jacob Hubbard Putnam of Rutland, Vermont. They were there in 1900 and nowhere now. She is still right here in 1920.
M. W. PUTNAM Oakland, Alameda County
He is listed as 37 CA ME ME, and is a boarder with Henry Thurman. He is a watchman. He looks to be the son of Allen Putnam and Sarah Remick from Maine. He was listed as William in 1880 and in 1900 in Humbolt County with his folks. Rand figures He is Ulmer W. Putnam, son of Ulmer John Putnam. The latter is an unknown from 1850 ME with mother Susan Heald.

The
son of Albert Sumner Putnam, Soule is listed as 51 CA. His second wife Ida M. is 28 CA. He married
Susie DuPuy in Sacramento May 25, 1894, had a son Elwood in 1895 and then
divorced. He will be divorced yet again and in San Francisco in 1920 and
1930. He will die in Alameda County May
16, 1944. Susie was in Oakland in 1900 and the son Elwood was with his
grandfather Edward DuPuy in Sacramento in 1900 and is still there in 1910. .
Susie will marry Joseph Franklin Stormfield in the early 1920 and then be
widowed in San Francisco in 1930 and then will die there May 7,1948.
WILLIAM E.
PUTNAM Oakland, Alameda County
William E. is listed as 29 MI. His wife, Lena, is 28 NY. Their daughter, Dolores R., was born in CA, but her age is not recorded. He first shows up in Detroit Michigan in 1900 living by himself in a lodging house. He drives a laundry truck here. He is William Edward Putnam and was born in Michigan June 28, 1880 and will die in Contra Costa April 23, 1946. According to that death index his mother’s name was Schrier. So I found his folks! Had his mom as Ellen Schriver, but same gal. They are John Edward Putnam born in Lockport, Niagara County New York in 1845 and Ellen Schryer from New York. Both folks died in Detroit, Michigan, he in 1896 and she in 1901. That’s when and why he headed to California. They are here in 1920, 1930 and 1940.
ROY PUTNAM Pleasanton, Alameda County
Roy is listed as 36 CA, his wife Elsie Mesca is 24 CA. They are living with his brother-in-law, Benjamin Mesca. He was actually born in Minnesota January 10, 1874 and will be here till he dies September 2, 1949. He was shown with parents Gordon Winslow Putnam and his second wife Karen Bentson in the 1885 State Census. He is not shown in the 1875 or the 1880 so would be either relate to Carrie or just adopted. I figured her last name as Bentson as in 1900 her brother Peter Bentson is with here. I don’t know if she was married to someone before and they were his kids. His full name is Roy Ignacious Putnam. The middle name may be his dad’s name. He will be here in 1930 and onwards.
CHRISTINE PUTMAN San Leandro, Alameda County
Christine is as 77 NY NY NY, a widow, She is a boarder with her widowed brother in law George Smith. She is either the widow or ex-wife of Alonzo Putnam from Fredonia, New York. She was there in 1880, and seems to have divorced or separated by 1870.

He is a son of Albert Sumner Putnam, and listed as 41 CA. His wife, Sarah Wrigglesworth, is 36 MI. His daughter Allie is 3 CA. They are living in the household of James M. Coffman. In 1920 this whole family will be back in Alameda County.

The son of William M. Putman from Georgia, Charles W. is listed as 43 GA. His wife, Matilda F. Kloss, is 40 CA. The children are: Ora L. 17 CA, Charles M. 15 CA, Verniba M. (Merle) 14 CA, and Margaret 6 CA. Also in the household is Charles' brother-in- law, August Kloss, 50 CA. Charles' brother, Burt M., is no longer there. Southern Putman family.

Francis Marion Putman's widow, Martha Alexander, is 65 TN living with her son in law John C. Oldham. She will die here February 24, 1918. Southern Putman family.

The son of John Henry Putman from Alameda. County George is listed as 49 CA. They were here in 1900 and will be in 1920. His wife, Grace Brackett, is 46 CA. The children are: Blalock G. (George Blalock) 21 WA, Grace (Grace Belle) 11 CA, Marian B. (Bernice) 9 CA, John (John Van Alstyne) 7 CA, and Dorothy 3 CA. Also in the household is Grace's mother, Weyeder (Amanda in 1900 and 1920. This name is probably “widow” or “widder”) Bracket, 68 MO.

Frederick is listed as 65 MA MA MA and divorced, and is living by himself. He is a son of James Pope Putnam and Abby Upton of Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He’ll be here in 1920 too.

Howard E. is listed as 37 CA. His wife, Myrtle, is 23 CA. The children are: Gertrude 4 CA, and Robert 2 CA. And William Cleveland, 25 CA, is a boarder. He was single in Kern County in 1900. He is a son of John Druary Putnam and Louise Murphy. He was with his family in 1880 in Lassen County California. They are in Los Angeles in 1920 and near there in 1930.

The son of the following John D. Putnam, George is listed as 18 CA, a farm hand. He is a boarder. He will be married in Orange County in 1920.

He is listed as 57 IL VT MA. His second wife, Louisa Murphy, is 57 TX. His son Howard and that family lives here with them. He is a son of Daniel Green Putnam and Elizabeth Washburn of Warren County Illinois. He was born in Warren County Illinois November 18, 1832. He was first married to Hannah E. Shaefer back in Lee County Iowa on September 2, 1858 and they then came out here to California. I don’t know what happened to her, but he married Louisa Murphy in Los Angeles County February 2, 1873. He was in Sutter County in 1870 with his brother Thomas. He and Louisa were in Lassen County in 1880. They were in Riverside County in 1900. He will die in Los Angeles County August 25, 1919 and Louisa is widowed in Los Angeles County in 1920. Louisa will die there on June 29, 1920.

Ralph M. is listed as 32 KS, and is a boarder with James L. Kennedy. He is a son of Johnson Putman and Lydia Frye from Walnut Township, Barton County Kansas. The family was originally from Brown County Illinois. Southern Putmans.

38 CA MA IRE and is a bank accountant. His wife Shirley M. is 22 CA. This is
his second and her first marriage. He is a son of Andrew Jackson Putnam and his
second wife Margaret. They were in San Juan, Nevada County in 1880, and here in
Eureka in 1900. Andrew is #2806, a son of Peter and Martha Putnam from Sutton,
Massachusetts. He just deserted his first wife Charlotte Andrews and came out
here in the late 1850s.
ADAM PUTMAN Ferndale, Pacific Township, Humbolt County
Adam is listed as 62 Canada. His wife, M. A. (Mary Ann Johnson), is 56 CA. The children at home are: Edward 28 CA, and Edna 26 CA. Their son William Mason is not listed as he is up in Alaska, but will be back here in San Francisco in 1920 and on. He is a son of Timothy Putnam (1987) and Ruth Dunlap of Middle Stewiacke, Nova Scotia, Canada. He’s been here since the 1860s. They will be here in 1920 as well. Mary will die here July 5, 1921, Adam sometime later.

Allen H. is listed as 66 ME. His wife, Sarah E., is 68 ME. Their daughter, Ola 29 CA, is the only child at home. He’s been here since the 1880s.

Frederick B. is listed as 39 IL. His wife, Katherine A., is 28 TX. There are no children listed. He is a son of Parker Trull Putnam and Laura Austin from Peoria, Illinois. He was single in Los Angeles in 1900. He and Katherine are in San Joaquin County in 1920. Katherine is also listed there now in 1910 living in a hotel.
EDWARD PUTNAM El Centro, Imperial County
Edward is listed as 55 MI. His wife, Estella Pardel, is 53 MI. Then there is a Maurice Bottriell 25 MI, listed as a son in law. Probably married their daughter Lulu. Edward is a son of Orlin and Caroline Putnam and was born in Clarendon, Calhoun County. He was in Ionia County Michigan in 1900. They will be in Anaheim, Orange County in 1920.

Rufus is listed as 33 CA. His wife, Bessie Wear, is 30 CA. The children are: Florence 7 CA, and Gladys 2 CA. He is Rufus Eugene Putnam son of John Druary Putnam and Louise Murphy. He was at home in Lassen County in 1880 and single in Tulare County in 1900. They are here in 1920.

Listed as Lilly is really Tilley Thomas Putnam listed as 35 TX, and is a boarder with the Harry Newman family. He is a son of Perley Porter Putnam, and living with his brother Royal. His dad is from Pennsylvania, the family originally from Massachusetts. He’ll be in Jackson County Texas in 1920.

SHAEFER) PUTMAN Township 6, Kern County
Uriah is listed as 47 CA IL PA, and is living in a Camp as a cook with a bunch of other guys. He is a son of John Drury Putnam and his first wife Hannah Shaefer. John married Hannah back in Lee County Iowa and then they came out here. I don’t know what happened, but Uriah was living with John W. Overton in Sonoma County in 1870 and 1880. I don’t find him in 1900, but in 1920 he is in San Bernardino County and in 1930 he is listed as Samuel in Los Angeles.

The son of Stillman Newell Putnam and Nellie Ingraham from San Francisco and Oakland. He is listed as 36 CA. His wife, Grace F. Newell, is 26 NE. Their son Newell T. (Thomas) is newly born. They’ll be in Contra Costa County in 1920.

He is listed as 25 MI. His wife, Hazel Van Dusen, is 23 MI. There are no children listed. He will be here in 1920 and 1930 as well. He is a son of George Duncan Putnam and Caroline Louise Waterbury from Pontiac, Michigan. They are here through the 1930 at least.

Elizabeth is listed as 80 KY, and is a boarder with Jessie Rose. She is Elizabeth Ann Arbuckle and is the second wife of Henry Evander Putnam. They were in Burbank in 1900 and then he died in 1904 and she is still widowed in Los Angeles in 1920.

John M. is listed as 47 NY. His wife, Louise Roberts, is 43 England. Their daughter, Rebecca, is 15 NY. Also in the household is Louise's widowed mother, Rebecca Roberts, 61 England. They are here through 1930. He is a son of Leonard Miller Putnam and Caroline Cahoo from Ludlow, Massachusetts then New York City (where John was born) and then Jersey City, New Jersey. They were married in Queens, New York in 1900.

Daniel is listed as 64 OH (really is 61 NH). There is no wife listed. The children are: Annette L. 22 IA, and Sylvia H. 16 IA. He is a son of Harrison Putnam and Clementine Lovering from Croyden, NH and then Bureau County Illinois and then Dan went to Iowa. The family was in Union County South Dakota in 1880 and in Adair County Missouri in 1900. He was married to Anna Rice through the 1900. He is widowed it seems now and in 1920, but Anna shows up (I think) in Oakland in 1930.

Harrison A. is listed as 33 OH. His wife Rose Sabichi is 22 CA. There are no children listed. He is a son of the above Daniel Putnam and his wife Anna. They are in Monrovia in 1920 and he is there with a new wife in 1930. He is a doctor of general practice.
SUMNER J. PUTNAM Lexington, Los Angeles County
He is 31 MO NR NR a farmer and his wife of one year Agnes Alberta Pollock is 20 MO SCOT IL. He is a son of Jerome Putnam from Putnam County Missouri. He was at home with his folks there in 1900 and will be in Tulare County in 1920 and his dad will be with him then.
ELMER (ULMER) J.
PUTMAN Long Beach, Los Angeles County
He is listed as 64 ME. His wife, Sybil B. Willard, is 63 ME. Their daughter, Ethel, 21 SD, is at home. He was with his mother Susan in Dover, Piscataquis County Maine in 1850. But no idea who his dad was. He and Sybil were in Davison County South Dakota in 1900. They will all still be here in 1920.

Herbert L. is listed as 39 NY. His wife, Harriet L., is 32 KS. Their son, Harold, is 13 KS. He is a son of John Russell Putnam and Genella Lord of Madison County New York. They were all in Butler County Kansas in 1900. They are in Los Angeles in 1920 and 1930.
MARY A. PUTMAN Long Beach, Los Angeles County
Mary A. is listed as 60 NY, and is living by herself. She is Mary Ann Wade and will die here in 1940 at age 90, right after being listed. She was married to James Putman and was with him in 1900 in Aspen, Colorado. He is a son of William Putnam and Mary Hopkins of Herkimer, New York. He died in Aspen in 1901.
MARSHALL
PUTNAM Lordsburg, Los Angeles County
Marshall Danforth Putnam is listed as 56 IL. His wife, Bessie (Elizabeth Jane Sneath), is 57 IL (actually born in Hudson County New Jersey). There are no children listed, most still back in Iowa now. Marshall was actually born in Cass County Michigan, but moved early on to Illinois. He married Betsy in 1877 and then the moved to Iowa in 1881, and then out here in 1900. Betsy will die here in 1916. His line is from the New England family it goes back Marshall > Benjamin > Uzziel > Uzziel > Amos > John > Nathaniel > John.
He is now 38 NY NY MA and a photographer for the City. His wife Rose Eberhart is 32 PA and they have Ralph 5 CA. They were married here in 1903. Ruth’s widowed mother Emma H. Eberhart 71 PA is living with them. They are all in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles County in 1920 and 1930, and there will be a new daughter by then. He is a son of John R. Putnam and Ellen Enderlee and was born in New York City. He was with his folks here in 1900. See that listing for his line. It is on the Yorkshire Putnam line from England. His folks are still here in Los Angeles. His mom will be widowed in 1920 and be in Eagle Rock as well.

He is listed as 44 NV. His wife, Marie Arnold, is 35 MI. Anna Marie Arnold is a second wife. He was married to Nette Anderson in 1900. They were divorced. Nettie married Frank Richardson and they moved to Alabama with the two sons they had here in 1900. Marie was married to a Smith guy before marrying Corridon in 1906. There are no children listed. His name is spelled Corridon on this census. Corriden will still be here in 1920 and 1930. He is a son of William Putnam and Louise M. Williams, both from Illinois. He was with his folks in Carson City, Nevada in 1870 and his dad died there in 1875.

Browne 56 VT. Frank is the son of Harrison Putnam and Permelia Clementine Loverin. He was born in 1855 in Bureau County, Illinois. He is home in Bureau County with his parents in 1860 and 1870. They were in Lassen County California in 1900 and will be here in 1920.

George is listed as 44 NY. His wife Eva Cressy is 47 MI. They have been married 19 years and this is her second marriage. He is a plasterer. He is a son of Theodore Putnam and Lydia Borden from Steuben County New York. He was born in Prattsburgh, New York May 22, 1866. He was in Sanilac County Michigan with his folks in 1870 and probably 1880 (can’t find that family then, but were there in 1900). They were in Allegan County Michigan in 1900. They are back in Sanilac County Michigan where he will die January 25, 1916.

John is listed as 45 OH ME OH, a boarder with the Chester A. Bell family. He says he is married but no wife is around. Closest guess is the John Putnam in Waterloo Iowa in 1900 married to Nellie Hubbard.

He is listed as 69 MA. His wife, Antoinette Adele Parsons, is 67 MA. Their son, Harold Everett is 37 MA. Harold is also listed in Riverside out working on a job. Harold was born November 15, 1872 and will die in Santa Barbara January 6, 1948. Harold is a house carpenter. They were in Savannah, Georgia in 1870, then Revere, Massachusetts in 1880, and in Everett, Massachusetts in 1900. He is a son of Ebenezer Putnam (1059) of Lowell.
John is now 74 NY NY MA and his wife Ellen Enderlee 50 MA. They live with their now married daughter Blanche 34 NY, her husband John Gardiner 36 SCOTLAND and their two kids. They have been here since the 1890s and the family was in New York City in 1880. Their son Arion is here in Los Angeles. Both John and Arion are professional photographers. Azro was born in New Hampshire, lived in La Salle County Illinois and married Harriet in Knoxville, Tennessee August 23, 1866 after serving in the Civil War. Moved out here in the 1870s, but I have never found Azro or John until now. Azro died out here July 28, 1877 in Santa Cruz County and was buried in Watsonville, Monterey County on June 30, 1877. Harriet is out here someplace as she will die in Napa County on June 30, 1923. John Melvin will be around the rest of his life and die in Watsonville, Monterey County on February 25, 1971 just shy of his 100th birthday. Amelia was born out here October 9, 1877 and will die in Monterey County February 24, 1975 at age 98. Good genes on both sides of this family!

He married Mary Stearns in Arizona in 1887. She was a physician in one of the Hospitals for Disabled Soldiers that he has been in since being injured in the Civil War.

Then she is also listed in Topeka Kansas in 1880 as a teach and is there single in 1895, 1900, 1905. Then in 1910 she is out in Sacrament, California with her widowed sister Mary Burr Putnam. Then in 1920 she is in Aspinwell, Allegheny County Pennsylvania with the widowed husband of another sister Elizabeth Perkins Putnam. This is a direct line that goes back to Israel Putnam Jr. of Ohio to his daddy General Israel Putnam of the Revolutionary War that got us out on our own as the good old USA.

According to his death record he will die in San Francisco on August 14, 1914. Crayton Hayes Putnam is the son of Charles Henry Putnam and Dorilla Agnes Hayes. I am fairly certain that Chuck is the son of Charles Henry Putnam and Adeline Amelia Sargent. They are in Xenia Ohio in 1880. Rand found a newspaper article in the San Francisco Chronicle. It said Mrs. Ollie Hagan murdered Crayton H. Putnam, who was a 22 year old clerk, in his apartment in Santa Anna. It was alleged to be the result of a love affair.

She only goes by her initials "M. J." Hernekin but this was in Petaluma so I think it is her. I think he is Thomas Crowe Putnam born 1836 NS. His wife Maria Rutherford, just died in 1903 so I guess he was lonely. Thomas died in 1909 in Petaluma. Elizabeth's death record from 1939 has her as Elizabeth J. H. Putnam. Rand found the 1900 CA record of her as Eliza Heineken married to Herman Heineken. Her age and parents birth locations exactly match the 1910-1930 census records.
He is a farmer 39 CA and has been married for 7 years to Mabel Black 35 CA NY IRE. They have Thomas Wesley 6 CA, John Alpheus 3 CA and Rutherford 1 CA. He is a son of Thomas Crowe Putnam from Sonoma and Nova Scotia before that. Mabel is widowed here by 1920.

He was a son of James Daniel Putman and Diadema Smith from Fulton County Illinois. So here is what I have now. William Boyd was born in Fulton County, Illinois May 15, 1851. He married Mary Elizabeth Smith September 6, 1877 and died in Arkansas City, Cowley County Kansas in 1894. Mary was widowed there in 1895. She was there with the kids, especially Jesse through the 1930 and died there in 1935. John Howard Putnam born in Kansas February 16, 1882. He married Regina Evans. She was born April 26, 1885 and died in Los Angeles County California August 28, 1980. He died May 23, 1943 in Los Angeles County. Southern Putmans from North Carolina to South Carolina to Indiana to Illinois and so on.

His wife Maria Rutherford, just died in 1903 so I guess he was lonely. Thomas died in 1909 in Petaluma. Elizabeth's death record from 1939 has her as Elizabeth J. H. Putnam. Rand found the 1900 CA record of her as Eliza Heineken married to Herman Heineken. Her age and parents birth locations exactly match the 1910-1930 census records.

They are in San Diego in 1930 and he is an announcer on a radio station. He suddenly appears in 1900 in Franklin County Kansas at age 13 CA and a nephew of Herbert Baldwin. His mother Ivy Adams had married Albert Baldwin before marrying his dad Charles Putnam. She died in the 1890s and Charles widowed in 1900. Probably why Luther was brought up here before heading West. Luther Lee is a son of Charles Sumner Putnam and Ivy Adams and was born in San Francisco, California January 11, 1887 and will die in Grass Valley, Nevada County California October 27, 1966. His dad was a son of Henry Locke Putnam and Mary Jane Cochran from Danvers, Massachusetts. Luther married Mattie Myra Jackson in Los Angeles August 5, 1907. Mattie is a daughter of Duke Wellington Jackson and Hattie Kendrick. She was born in Miner, Miner County South Dakota August 23, 1885 and will die in San Francisco October 11, 1965. They are in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County in 1920 and 1930 and San Francisco after that till they pack it in.
