CANADIAN
CENSUS REPORTS
1871
===============
The
1871 Census listed the people and their birthplaces. There are also several
entries for people who have died in the 12-month period ending April 2, 1871. I
haven’t added these in as it got confusing. These entries are in what they
refer to as Schedule Two. Not all the colonies are listed. Just got Nova Scotia
from Rand Putnam this month. As in 1881, there are many more families spelled
Putman than Putnam, but are practically all on the New England Putnam line.
A great
gal, Jane Currie Wile wrote a genealogy/history on the Putnams of Nova Scotia
in 2001. She gave ‘numbers’ to the ones in the various lines coming down from Timothy
Putnam and William Putnam who came up here from Salem Village (Danvers),
Massachusetts in the later 1700s. I’ll use these numbers when I can, and if you
buy or find her book, you can trace the lines back to John Putnam of Salem,
Mass. and forward up to the present. I’ll also use, if possible, Eben Putnam’s numbering system from his 1908 2-volume set
of books the Putnam Family History.
These folks fell in love with Nova Scotia and most hung around all their lives.
