March 29, 1861. He married Hannah in Winnebago County Iowa November 16, 1898
and he died there in Buffalo Center November 28, 1920. In 1910 he said his dad
was born in Connecticut and his mom in New York. Then I just found a family
sheet that he was born in Waukegan, Lake County and his folks were James S.
Putnam and Mary Ann Snyder. I looked at the 1860 and yes
they were in Waukegan in 1860 and he was a son of Edward Putnam and Lydia Melandy from New Hampshire who was also in Lake County in
1860. Ed was number 1243 in Eben Putnam’s book. Going
back to his dad James S. Putnam, he was in the Union Army in the Civil War and
died November 26, 1869. Thatճ why I can’t find him or
young Jim in 1870. But, finally got the line. Yeh!!!

She is 39 IA and married. Confusing. The listing has Art
Angus 20 IA as head, Nettie as mother, Earl Angus 22 IA as brother and Dorothy
Putnam 11 IA as sister. They say they were all in Knoxville, Marion County in
1935. Okay, I found a birth certificate for Arthur Willard Angus born December
19, 1919 in Sioux City, Woodbury County Iowa. His dad was Herbert F. Angus and
mom Nettie Linn. So that ties Nettie into the Angus gang. They were all in
Sioux City in 1920. I don’t find any of them in 1930, even Dorothy. So I assume she married a Putnam sometime. Dorothy may be
theirs or his from a previous marriage. I kept looking and found Dorothy in
Lyons, Burt County Nebraska in 1930 as a daughter of Harry Lee Putnam and his
new second wife Nannie and they also have a son Arthur 10 IA. BINGO! Harry had
been married to Mary Sowby in 1920 in, of all places,
Sioux City, Iowa and they were divorced in the early 1920s. Since Nettie Angus
lived across the street and Herbie had died or gone missing, Harry shoved them
all in the back of his new 1926 Ford Wagon and got outa
town fast as he could. You’ll note Nettie says she is married still. So does
Harry who now in 1940 is in a Veteran’s hospital in Pulaski County Arkansas and
says he is still married. Wait for the 1950 to see what is next.

ALBERT PUTNAM Linn Township, Marshall County
He is 90 IA and divorced. His wife Nancy Pyle died in 1920 when they were in Warren County. He was widowed in 1930 at age 80 so I doubt if he married in the last few years. Anyway he is a member of the Iowa State Soldiers Hospital and will be here till he dies April 4,1943. He is a son of James Rufus Putnam and his first wife Cynthia Ann Bradley from Dubuque County.
