of Israel Putnam II and Sarah Waldo of Pomfret, Connecticut. New England
Family.
JACQUELIN PUTNAM Pineville, Bell County
She is 15
VA and lives with her half-sister-in-law Estelle Farmer 26 KY. Okay, confused?
Look back at 1930 and it makes sense. Robert Putnam was married to Ellen Neff
here for years until the mid 1920s. They split and in 1930 he was married to
Nell Pastin. Estelle was Nell’s daughter from her
previous marriage and here with them. Then Jackie was 5 then and listed as
their daughter. Why/how she was born in Virginia is a question. Anyway she will
soon marry Philip Lacy Martin Mach 20, 1941 at the ripe old age of 16.

She is 5

been married to Ellen Neff before they separated in the 1920s. Nellie was
married in 1909 to Huey Miller, in 1913 to a Farmer guy, 1919 to Barnet Trew and 1925 to Robert. She was 30 years younger. Robert
died in 1938 and Nellie in 1939 and Eloise ended up here. But, I have no idea
how the Howard family fits in. Anyway, Eloise was born here October 22, 1934.
She will marry Walter Scott Baker in Claiborne County Tennessee April 22, 1975
and die back here in Pineville, Bell County on her birthday October 22, 2007.

He is 17
(probably 19) KY single and listed as a son of John C. Mason 68 KY. Best guess on
my part is that he is Marvin M. Putman who has been listed in 1930 as a son of
Virgil Watson Putman and Vadia Reynolds. Maybe the
listing is screwed up, or maybe Vadia had an illegal
kid with Mason. Marvin’s middle initial is M. Marvin was born April 21, 1909
and will die in Hopkinsville, Hopkins County in January 1981.
MOLLIE PUTMAN Owensboro, Daviess County

Massachusetts to Bath County Virginia right after the Revolution and stayed

He has
been listed as Joseph W. up till now, but I think the writing was really Jms not Jos and he was James all along. He has been here
since the 1900s and was with his widowed mother Elizabeth in Christian County
in 1880. In 1870 he was in Gibson County Indiana with his parents William
Putman and Mary Elizabeth Hoard. He is now 67 IN, Virginia Richardson his wife

Hoard. In 1870 he was with his folks William and Mary Elizabeth Hoard Putman in
Gibson County Indiana. Virginia Richardson Putman was born in Webster County

COYLE PUTMAN Nortonville, Hopkins County
He is 27
KY, his wife Anna Childers 31 KY and Judith Ann just born KY. Indexed as Coyles, but hard to read. Should be Claude Anderson
Putman’s son Kenneth Cale Putman, right age and from here. Claude and the

LENA M. (MARGARETTE) PUTMAN White Plains, Hopkins County
She is 13
KY and listed as a daughter of Alonzo Oglesby 31 KY and Lena P. Oglesby 16 KY.
Found a sheet saying she was born January 16, 1927 in Hopkins County, married
George Shevrovich, and died in Wyandotte, Michigan
March 3, 1991. Then I found the birth record and it gives her mother’s name as
Addie Putman. The census page shows they live a couple of houses away from
William Putman here in town. William is from Curtail, Hopkins County. In 1920
George Washington Putman in Curtail has a daughter named Adie Lou age 16, which
makes her the same age as the mom Lena here, So my guess is that young Lena is
a daughter of old Lena and some guy back in Curtail, maybe even Willie.
MATTIE PUTMAN White Plains, Hopkins County
Mattie
Hight is now 47 KY and widowed. Her husband Claud Anderson Putman died here
April 24, 1938. At home still are Agnes 19 KY, Imogene 15 KY and Lindsey B. 12
KY. Claud is yet another son of George Washington Putman from Curtain.

and here in 1930. He will die here November 14, 1963 at age 73. Hallie will die
May 22, 1970 at age 81.
WILLIAM K. PUTMAN White Plains, Hopkins County
He is 29
KY, his wife Bessie 37 KY and he owns a restaurant. Says they were here in the
same house in 1935. Can’t find him earlier under William. But looks like Virgil
Putman’s kid named Kester who was 19 KY in 1930 at home in Curtail, Hopkins
County. That Kester or Kesther was listed as a son on
1920 and a daughter in 1930. Right age and right middle initial for what that’s
worth.
ROBERT A. (ALEXANDER) PUTNAM Kingsley, Jefferson County
He is 43
MA, his wife Marian 40 VT and they have Gloria 17 WI, Patricia 11 WI and Robert
Mitchell 6 WI. He is an accountant in a soap factory as he was back in
Milwaukee in 1930. Think he is with Colgate. He is a son of Alexander and
Harriet Putnam and was born in Worcester, Massachusetts February 22, 1899. He
was there with his family in 1900 and then in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1910. In
1920 his dad Alex has a new wife Beatrice and is in Los Angeles then. Robert
was there still in 1930 married to Marian and they were all here by 1935.
ALICE PUTMAN Louisville, Jefferson County
She is 13
KY and listed as a daughter of Sebina/Sabrina Hawk 64
KY and James Hawk 64 KY. Then there is a Mary Thomas 86 KY listed as
mother-in-law. Now, Lawrence Chester here in town was married to Alice Mary
Thomas who died here in 1927. Alice was right here in 1930 at age 3. So Alice may have been Lawrence’s kid with wife one Alice
Thomas or kinda illegal with potential wife two Mary Hawk/Hoeck.
Only thing sure of is her daddy is Larry Putnam from here listed shortly.
ALPHEUS G. (GEORGE) PUTNAM Louisville, Jefferson County
He is
Alpheus the 3rd and is 36 KY, his wife Elsie Reitzel is 34 KY and

KENTUCKY 1950 CENSUS
In the 1940 census and especially
now in the 1950 Census, the handwriting on the sheets is a bit better. But now
that people are using Ancestry and Family Search and putting their family trees
up on the sites, and the sites themselves have much better search engines and
send you to a whole bunch of info docs and records. I now can find a family
sheet on about everyone and many on the wife’s side. When I first started doing
this in the very early 1970s, all that was available to see was up to the 1900.
There was no such thing as on-line and the computers then were the size of a
locker room. I had to drive out to Waltham, Massachusetts to the U. S. Library,
beg for a film real of the dates and State I wanted and then look at it through
a visual device in a back dark room and literally go page to page, county to
county and write the info down on paper with a pencil. At that time, really the
most people doing genealogy were older women, mostly retired school teachers in
their 70s and 80s, who would send you hand written trees and info and stuff
that they had back a couple of generations. Once in a while I would get an
actual typewritten document. Wow! Got much better in the 1990s. Now it is sooo easy to get info you didn’t think was possible. Back
in the 70s I tried calling folks, and got a hold of several who had info. Now
just an e-mail can bring in a ton of info. Anyway, really enjoy these censuses,
and if you can add or correct, please let me know so I can help others.
