HAROLD PUTNAM
Ardmore, Androscoggin County
He is 27 (really 29, bad handwriting) ME single and
living with his grandfather Dennis McCarty 84 ME. He is a son of Harold A. Putnam and Katherine Larson from Augusta, Maine where
he was born March 31, 1903 and then Portland. He will marry Adeline E.
Dobson in Portland, Maine December 26, 1930. Guess they divorced as he is in
Los Angeles in 1940 by his lonesome.
WILLIAM H. PUTNAM
Lewiston, Androscoggin County
He is 61 ME ME ME and widowed. He is a lawyer. He is a son of John Farnum
Putnam from Lewiston. He was still at home in 1900, and was single here in
1910. He was married here in 1920.
CHARLES E. PUTNAM
Livermore Falls, Androscoggin County
He is now 64 ME ME ME and widowed as he was in 1920. He is a mechanic in a
garage. He is a son of Houghton H. Putnam and was born here.
EVERETT E. (EDWARD) PUTNAM Livermore, Androscoggin County
He is 47 ME ME ME and is a carpenter. His wife Ethel A. Thing is 51 MA and
they have Edith H. 20 ME, Cynthia H. 19 ME and Lewis T. 15 ME. He is a son of
Lewis Putnam and Ida Bisbee of Oxford County. He was born there January 24,
1883 and will die here in Livermore Falls May 2, 1947. He was there with his
widowed mom in 1900 and was here since 1910 with Ethel. The son Lewis was born
June 25, 1914 and will die in Lewiston at age 91 on July 20, 2005. He will be
divorced here in 1935 and 1940.
LEWIS C. (CERVIER) PUTNAM Wales, Androscoggin County
He is 44 ME ME ME and owns a farm. His wife Gladys Davis is 41 ME and they
have George L. 14 ME, and Lucille 7 ME. He is a son of Lewis Putnam and Ida
Bisbee of Oxford County. He was there with his widowed mom in 1900 and here in
1910 and 1920. He was born March 24, 1886 and will die in Winthrop, Maine May
14, 1966. They are here in 1935 and 1940.
BERT V. (BERTRAM VARNEY) PUTNAM Cary Plantation, Aroostook County
He is 37 ME ME ME and works in a sawmill. His wife Eva Colbath is 37 ME
and they now have Arthur 17 ME, Clayton 15 ME, Ervin 12 ME, Orin 7 ME, Glenn 5
ME and Lynwood 2 ME. He is a son of Blackhawk Putnam and Orrie
Seamans and was born here. He married Eva January 25, 1912. The son Clayton
will be marrying Bessie Edwards here May 13, 1939. Arthur was born August 11,
1912, and will marry Clara Gretchell December 15,
1934. She was born here in Cary July 26, 1913 and will die here January 5,
2006. He will die in Houlton in July 1978. Ervin was born April 3, 1918 and die
July 27, 2005. He will marry Phyllis A. Scott here September 16, 1943. Glenn
will marry Catherine Carr from Amity on October 24,
1948. Lynwood will marry Betty Ann Hutchinson June 17, 1945. They are all here

BLACKHAWK H. PUTNAM
Cary Plantation, Aroostook County
He is 69 ME ME ME and owns a far. His wife Orrie
Seamans is 63 ME and Alton is now 26 ME. He is a son of Varney Putnam and Mary
Elizabeth Cone. The son Alton will marry a cousin Charlotte Seamans here on
November 24, 1937.
PHILIP PUTNAM
Cary Plantation, Aroostook County
He is 26 ME ME ME, his sister Myra 32 ME and brother Dean 30 ME. Their
widowed mother Minnie 63 ME is here. Minnie Pollard was married to Dean
Blanchard Putnam. They live next to Blackhawk. Dean was Blackhawk’s brother and
their farms adjoined each other. Young Dean will marry Margaret Weldon here
December 4, 1933.
AZIEL PUTNAM
Fort Fairfield, Aroostook County
He is 48 ME ME ME and is an automobile mechanic. His wife Alena Patee is 45 ME and they have John 18 ME, Arthur H. 16 ME,
Harriet C. 13 ME, Sarah V. 10 ME, Lewis S. 9 ME, Charles P. 8 ME, Clara J. 5
ME, and Ray M. 3 ME. He is Aziel Junior, son of Aziel Walden Putnam and Caroline Nadeau. He was born here.
The son John Warren will marry Reta Rogers here on January 9, 1937. He was born
August 3, 1912 and will die in Orange County Florida July 5, 1982. Lewis will
marry Anna Solomon here December 17, 1943. Charles will marry Pauline McKenney
here February 21, 1949. Aziel will die here September

GEORGE W. (WASHINGTON) PUTNAM Fort Fairfield, Aroostook County
He is 37 ME ME ME and is a plumber. His wife Rae Merrithew is 31 ME. They
have George W. 9 ME, David 8 ME and Barbara 5 ME. He is a son of Samuel and
Vesta Putnam. He was born here August 2, 1892, and Rae in December 1898. They
were married June 10, 1919. They are all here in 1940.
MARTHA PUTNAM
Fort Fairfield, Aroostook County
Mattie is 49 ME ME ME and manages a dry goods store. Her sister Lucia is 44 ME
and is the head telephone operator in town. Her brother Ira is 40 ME and is a
mason. Her sister Sarah is 37 ME and is a nurse. Then there is a sister-in-law
Pearl 22 CAN and her kids Della 7 ME and Marjorie 5. She is widowed but was
married to Sanford S. Putnam. All these kids, except Pearl, are children of Aziel Walden Putnam and Caroline Nadeau from here. All are
unmarried.
AARON A. (ALBERT) PUTNAM Houlton, Aroostook County
He is 43 ME ME ME and is a lawyer.
His wife Myra is 39 ME and they have Elizabeth 12 ME, Haden (Aaron
Hacker) 9 ME, Mayer L. a daughter 7 ME and John 5 ME. Myra is a new wife and
has her own set of kids: Myra Higgins 13 ME CAN ME, Burt 11 ME, Tyler 9 ME, and
a daughter 7 ME. He was married to Maria Hacker here in 1920. He is a son of
Albert Temple and Cordelia Putnam from here in Houlton. He was born July 23,
1886, and married Maria Louise Hacker in Fort Fairfield June 27, 1917. He will
be here in Houlton till he dies October 29, 1968. Maria was born in Fort
Fairfield October 18, 1890. I assume this is a messed entry as Maria will die
here in Houlton February 10, 1969. In 1940 there is no mention of Myra Higgins
or her kids and Maria is here then and all is Ԣack to normal. The Myra stuff is
simply an error.
ALBERT T. (TEMPLE) PUTNAM Houlton, Aroostook County
He is 77 ME CAN ME and long widowed. His daughter
Beatrice 34 ME and her husband John Wiley 39 ME are still living with him. They
have a daughter Elizabeth 5 ME. He is a son of Lysander Putnam and Ruth Libby.
He was born here November 8, 1852 and will die here May 17, 1937.
AMOS PUTNAM
Houlton, Aroostook County
He is a custodian at the Post Office and is now 67
ME ME ME. His wife Cora
Margaret Carpenter is a reporter for the newspaper and is 57 ME ME CAN. Also here are her father Frank Carpenter 84 ME and
Cora’s sister Elvira Carpenter 42 ME. Amos is a son of
Levy Houlton Putnam and Sarah Bradbury, and was born here in Houlton June 16,
1863 and will die here May 25, 1936. Cora is a daughter of Frank Carpenter and
Elvira Green. She was born here in Houlton June 14, 1872 and will die here
January 30, 1964.
ARTHUR PUTNAM
Houlton, Aroostook County
He is 48 ME ME ME and his wife Claire Pierce is 41 ME. They have Isabel 12
ME, Hannah 11 ME, Arthur O. (Otis) Jr. 8 ME, Mellen
P. 6 ME and Joseph L. 5 ME. He runs an oil and gas business with his brother
Fred. They both married Pierce sisters. He is a son of Albert Temple and
Cordelia Putnam. He was born here April 30, 1882, and married Claire A. Pierce
July 1, 1916. They are here in 1930. Arthur will be here till he dies April 6,
1970. Clair was born in Fort Fairfield May 24, 1888 and will die here October
27, 1959. Arthur Otis junior will marry Lona D. Taggett
here in Houlton on May 7, 1949. Arthur was born January 15, 1922 and will die
in Houlton on October 7, 2007. Lona was born August 29, 1922 and will die here
July 17, 1993. Based on a gravestone, Mellon was born in 1923 and alive in
2008. He married a Pauline T. who was born October 7, 1926 and died March 16,
2000 in Houlton.
BELLE PUTNAM
Houlton, Aroostook County
She is 70 76 CT CAN CAN
and widowed. She is Ida Belle Bell the widow of Mellen
D. Putnam from here in Houlton. They were here in 1900 and 1910 and not listed
in 1920. He died here January 27, 1925. Belle is the daughter of James Bell and
Corneba Gaylord. She was born in Connecticut February
10, 1865 and will die here in Houlton June 4, 1942.
ETTA L. PUTNAM
Houlton, Aroostook County
Etta Smith is 76 ME and widowed since Samuel Putnam
has died in the past several years. They were both here all their lives through
the 1920.
FLOYD PUTNAM
Houlton, Aroostook County
He is 24 ME ME ME and his wife Dorothy McAubrey
is 19 ME and they have Janet 2 ME. He is Walter Putnam and Almeda Hussey’s son
born here April 17, 1905. He married Dorothy June 2, 1928. They will get
divorced and he will marry Evelyn G. Knapp here in Houlton on September 21,
1935. Evelyn was born in Maine June 4, 1912 and will die in Manchester,
Connecticut June 6, 1993. Floyd will die in Manchester, Connecticut April 9,
1984. His first wife Dorothy and daughter Janet are in South Portland with her
folks in 1940. She probably couldn’t stand living up here couple of hundred
miles north of Canada itself
FRED L. (LYSANDER) PUTNAM Houlton, Aroostook County
He is 49 ME ME ME and a gas and oil merchant with his brother Arthur. His
wife Mary Alice Pierce is 44 ME and they have Cordelia 19 ME and Albert 17 ME.
He is a son of Albert Temple and Cordelia Putnam. Fred was born November 18,
1880 and will die here on September 12. 1974. Mary was born in Fort Fairfield
January 13, 1886 and will die here November 3, 1978. The son Albert was born
here January 5, 1913, and will marry Mary Ann Madigan here on February 21,
1942. He will die here in Houlton May 2, 1966.
MADGE PUTNAM
Houlton, Aroostook County
She is 38 ENG and widowed. Marjorie Weldon was
married to Frank Putnam here in 1920. She has Amos W. 8 ME, Kathleen 7 ME and
Joan L. 5 ME. Her widowed mother Annie Weldon 70 ENG is here too. Frank was a
son of Amos and Cora Putnam here in Houlton. He was born March 29, 1892, and
just died here in Houlton January 29, 1930. Madge was born in London England
October 22, 1891 and will die here March 2, 1957.
RANSOM PUTNAM
Houlton, Aroostook County
He is listed as Ransford and is 39 ME ME ME. His wife Effie May Moores is 54 ME and her brother George Moores
is 49 ME. They have been married 17 years (September 13, 1914). He is a son of
Dean Blanchard Putnam and Minnie Pollard from Cary where he was born November
9, 1890. He was home in 1900 and 1910 and I don’t find him in 1920 but they are
here in 1935 and 1940.
WALTER K. (KING) PUTNAM Houlton, Aroostook County
He is 52 ME ME ME and is a general merchant. His wife Almeda Hussey is 45
ME. He is a son of Willard Putnam and Mary Ward from here. His sons Willard and
Floyd live either on the same property or in the same house. Walter was born
November 2, 1877. Almeda is a daughter of Benjamin Hussey and Vesta Hall. She
was born in December 1884 and will die here in Houlton November 28, 1960.
Walter will die here in 1958. They are here in 1935 and 1940 and then still in
1950.
WILLARD H. (HOULTON) PUTNAM Houlton, Aroostook County
He is 22 ME ME ME and a farm laborer. His wife Verna Adams is 22 ME and
their son Walter Adams Putnam is 2 ME. His brother Floyd lives with him but I’ll
give him a separate listing. They are sons of Walter King Putnam and Almeda
Hussey and live on the same property. Willard was born February 27, 1908 and
will die here in Houlton October 16, 1975. Willard and Verna were married here
August 4, 1926. There is another marriage record where Willard married Norah
Wilson here December 7, 1946, and another for Norah Lyons on the same date. One
would be her maiden name, the other from a previous marriage. Based on her
grave, Nora was born December 11, 1918 and died in Houlton June 15, 1999. Their
son Willard A. was born October 15, 1928 and will marry Beth Drake July 29,
1978 and later Julie Ray Clark on June 8, 1991. Young Willard will die here
March 11, 1999. Fun to find these records. They are here in 1940 and so is
their son Willard.
CHARLES PUTNAM
Presque Isle, Aroostook County
He is 26 ME ME ME and owns his farm. His wife Gladys M. Mullen is 22 ME
and they have Charles Jr. 3 5/12 ME and Joseph 1 ME. Charles Royce Putnam is a
son of Samuel Putnam and Vesta Erskine from here. Charles was born here March
29, 1904 and will die in Presque Isle, Maine May 26, 1976. He and Gladys were
married here October 22, 1925. She is a daughter of Joseph Edwin Mullen and
Ella Mae Kearney and was born in Presque Isle July 18, 1908 and will die in
Caribou in August 1980. An obituary of her son Joseph states her name was
Gladys Bushey, so she may have been married before
she married Charlie. No firm ideas at all here. Now, something like a divorce
will take place as Charlie will later marry Bernice Hazel Knights who was
previously married to a Kinney. There is an obituary for Bernice Hazel Knights
Putnam saying she was a daughter of Alfred Hiram Knights and Lucy Adeline Cole
and was born June 4, 1909 in Brookston, Aroostook County and died there October
25, 2004. It says she was predeceased by two husbands, Otis Kinney and Charles
Putnam. Then, the son Joseph Putnam was born March 28, 1929 and will die in Van
Buren, Maine March 25, 2008. He will marry Betty Kierstead
of Caribou and they will have 3 sons and 4 daughters and his obituary says he
had two stepsons with the last name Long so Betty was married before him and
may have been his second wife. They are here with more kids in 1935 and 1940.
LINWOOD J. (JOHN) PUTNAM Presque Isle, Aroostook County
He is 5 ME CT ME and listed as a grandson of
Stephen and Minnie Bryson. He is also listed now in Hartford, Connecticut with
his parents John J. Putnam and Veronica Bryson. John lists his parents as both
being born in Germany so he is not a Putnam. He is still here in 1940.
VARNEY W. PUTNAM
Weston, Aroostook County
Amos’ son is now 90 ME and still lives with his
relatives the Brackets. His wife was Ophelia Bracket who died around 1915.
RALPH C. PUTNAM
Brunswick, Cumber land County
He is 32 ME ME ME and is a house painter. His wife Hattie Harris is 45 ME.
Her widowed mother is here and I can’t read the last name. Anyway, he is a son
of Lewis C. and Ida Putnam and was in Oxford County in 1900 and 1910, and was
married here in 1920. He and Hattie were married December 30, 1919. Ralph was
born December 28, 1899 and will be here in Brunswick till he dies in February
1973. They are here in 1935 and 1940. She is widowed here in 1950
ANNA PUTNAM
Portland, Cumberland County
She is 26 ME and says she is married. She lives
with her mother Mary Jacabsky.
ARCHIE L. PUTNAM
Portland, Cumberland County
He is 40 ME ME ME and is a metal worker in a plumbing shop. His wife
Bernadine Ellingwood is 38 NH and Leona is 19 NH.
They were married September 4, 1909, and in Coos County, New Hampshire in 1910
and 1920. He is a son of Albert Putnam and Amy Reed from Rumford, Oxford County
Maine. In 1900 he was with his father Albert who was divorced at that point.
They were living with his grandparents Francis Putnam and Eunice Towne.
CHARLES N. PUTNAM
Portland, Cumberland County
He is 52 ME ME ME and a chauffeur for the city (bus driver I would guess).
His wife Jennie Valento is 51 ITALY, but it’s Maine
in 1910. He is a son of Ira Nelson Putnam and Abbie Baird from Oxford County.
Don’t find them in 1920, but they were here in 1910 and I’m sure in 1920 and
will be in 1940.
HAROLD A. PUTNAM
Portland, Cumberland County
He is 53 ME ME ME. His wife Katherine Larson is 53 ME and Philip C. 21 ME.
He is a son of John Farnum Putnam and his second wife Myra Bickford. He was
home in Lewiston in 1880, boarding in Augusta in 1900 and married there in 1910
and 1920. They are here in 1940 as well. Their son Harold Junior is missing now
but is around somewhere, as he will marry Adeline E. Dobson here in December
26, 1930 so he can get in the marital tax deduction in this year’s work. The
son Harold was born March 31, 1903 and die in Los Angeles February 24, 1984.
Adeline was born November 23, 1901 and will die in Portland in December 1977.
The son Philip will marry Marie A. Jacques here on September 1, 1934. They are
all here in Portland in 1940.
HARRY F. (FRANKLIN) PUTNAM Portland, Cumberland County
He is 41 NH NH NH and his wife Grace Merrill 41 CAN. They have Harry M. 17
VT, May A. 17 WY, Martin A. 12 WY and Grace 5 NH. Harry is a son of Arthur O.
Putnam and May Franklin from Sullivan and then Cheshire County New Hampshire.
He was at home in Walpole, Cheshire County New Hampshire in 1900. He was born
there July 27, 1889 and will die in Nevada County California January 31, 1962.
They were in Park County, Wyoming in 1910 and in Rockingham County, New
Hampshire in 1920. Also in 1910 Grace was with her
folks, Martin Merrill and Nettie Wilkinson in Coos County, New Hampshire. Grace
was born August 31, 1891 and will die in Riverside, California December 27,
1966. The son Harry M. will marry Frances L. Hayden here on June 23, 1935 and
be here in Portland in 1940. Harry and Grace and kids are in Benton, Kennebec
County Maine in 1940.
WALTER A. PUTNAM
Portland, Cumberland County
He is 58 NH MA MA and his
wife Carrie DeNico is 56 ME. He works in a canning
factory. Probably fish. They have been in Somerset County in 1900 through 1920.
He is a son of John Benedict Putnam and Aurilla
Searles from Nashua, New Hampshire. I don’t know where their son Alfred H. is
now, but he will marry Gladys M. Shaw of Augusta on May 9, 1931. All of them
are here in 1935 and 1940.
WILLARD O. PUTNAM
Portland, Cumberland County
He is 55 MA MA MA and his wife Mae Gertrude Bilodeaux
is 46 MA and they have Mary D. 24 MA and Shirley G. 22 MA. He is a milkman and
the daughters are both school teachers. He is a son of Joseph Henry Putnam and
Clara Jordan of Wilmington, Massachusetts. Joseph was a son of Henry Locke
Putnam number 2405. They were here in 1920.
JOHN PUTNAM
Jay, Franklin County
He is 58 ME ME ME and a finisher in a paper mill. His wife Augusta Davis
Jewell is 47 ME. He was single in Androscoggin County in 1900 and still single
here in Wilton, Franklin County in 1910. They were married here in Jay on
August 30, 1915, and were here in 1920. They are here in 1940 too.
IDA M. PUTNAM
Mount Desert, Hancock County
She is 56 ME and widowed. She lives with her
brother (probably brother-in-law) Arthur Clement 53 ME. She married Fred H.
Putnam of Brewer Maine here September 8, 1924. It was her second marriage as
she was listed as Ida Leland on the September 1924 date. Her maiden
name was Richardson. He was a son of Thomas J. and Mary Putnam, and was in
Aroostook County in 1880, and in Waldo County after that till the very early
1920s. Then he moved to Penobscot County with his son lived there when he
married Ida according to the marriage license.
ANNIE C. PUTNAM
Litchfield, Kennebec County
She is 67 ME and widowed. She is a housekeeper for
an Ashford family. Think she is the widow of William Putnam from Waterville,
Kennebec County.
ALBERT F. (FREDERICK) PUTNAM Pittston, Kennebec County
He is 54 ME ME ME and owns a farm. His wife Merle Moody is 40 ME, Audrey
A. 14 ME, Eugene A. 13 ME and Harlan A. 12 ME. He is a son of George Benjamin
Putnam and Mary Morrill. He was born here in Kennebec County, then moved with
his folks to California and they were in Siskiyou County in 1900. Then they
came back out here and were here in 1910 and 1920. The son Eugene was born May
2, 1917 and will die in Gardiner, Maine Christmas Day 1992. He will marry
Aletha Eastman on March 24, 1940. Harlan was born April 8, 1918 and will die in
Gardiner Maine September 1, 1995. He will marry Almoza
M. Vigue here on October 11, 1941. They are all here
in 1940.
RALPH G. (GEORGE) PUTNAM Randolph, Kennebec County
He is 42 ME ME ME and works in a shoe factory. His wife Grace Preble is 38
ME and they have Doris L. 15 ME, Kenneth N. 10 ME, Burleigh J. 5 ME, and
Lindsay a son 3 ME. He is a son of George Benjamin Putnam and Mary Morrill. He
and the above Albert Putnam, his brother, were born here in Kennebec County,
moved with their folks to California and were in Siskiyou County in 1900. Then
they all came back out here and were in Pittston, Kennebec County in 1910. Then
I guess their mom died here, and their dad went back to San Mateo, California
living with their sister Harriet Clark. They were married here in 1920. The son
Kenneth will marry Helen Frohock June 15, 1940, and
then marry Corrine Fuller November 22, 1944. Burleigh was born January 17, 1925
and will die in Gardiner, Maine in October 1987. He will marry Isabelle Gordon
February 26, 1946, and Lindsay will marry Violet Gordon (sisters) here April 7,
1947.
DONALD E. PUTNAM Waterville,
Kennebec County
He is 36 ME ME CT and his
wife Antoinette W. is 35 ME CAN ME. They have been married 12 years. He is an
assistant manager at a woodworking plant. They were in Louisville, Kentucky in
1920. He is the son of Harry Lyman Putnam and Mary Gertrude Bass from Houlton,
Maine. In the 1935 State Census in Pinellas County Florida. He and Antoinette,
both 40 years old, are there living with his widowed mother Gertrude B. Putnam
70 CT. Also there is Beecher Putnam 68 ME who was
Harry Lyman’s brother. Ties it all up nicely. Harry Lyman Putnam his dad had
just died here in 1934 and probably why Donald was there. Mary Gertrude Bass
his mom will die in 1945 and his brother Beecher in 1944. All three are buried
at the Royal Palm South Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Pinellas County Florida.
JEAN &
NORA & DUNCAN PUTNAM Waterville, Kennebec County
Jean is 11 NS NS NS and boarding. Nora 10 NS and Duncan (actually John
MacDougall) 8 NS are with yet another family. They are children of Wilder
Putnam. I don’t know why they are all split up now. Probably living with
kinfolk of their mother who was born here. They are all back with their dad
Wilder in 1940.
WILDER PUTNAM
Waterville, Kennebec County
He s 48 NS NS NS and widowed. He is a traveling salesman. He is a son of
John Graham Putnam and Susan McDonald Douglas from Maitland, Hants, Nova
Scotia. He married Nellie Cook from here in Waterville January 1, 1895, and
they went back to Maitland. He ran a store there until 1923 and then came down
here in 1924. She died here April 26, 1925. He will remain in Maine until he
dies here October 14, 1955.
ALICE L. (LUCY) PUTNAM Winthrop, Kennebec County
She is 65 ME MA ME and is single and boarding. She
is a daughter of John Prince Putnam and Kate Louisa Gardner and was born here.
She has been down in Quincy, Massachusetts with a cousin since the 1890s.
CHARLOTTE L. PUTNAM
Winthrop, Kennebec County
She is 48 ME and widowed. She lives with her
widowed mother Emma J. Richmond 72 ME.
JOHN E. (EDWARD) PUTNAM Winthrop, Kennebec County
He is 65 ME ME ME and still has a housekeeper Estelle Brown 61 ME as he
did in 1920. He is a son of Christopher Columbus Putnam and was born here in
Winthrop. They are both here still in 1940.
STERLING PUTNAM
Camden, Knox County
He is George Sterling Putnam a son of Israel Judson
Putnam from here in Knox County. He is 22 ME ME ME and his wife Linnie B. Eaton is 20 ME. They were married
just over a year ago on December 31, 1928. George was born in South Thomaston
August 15, 1907 and will die in Rockport in 1990.
CHARLES A. PUTNAM
Rockland, Knox County
He is 42 VT NY NY and is

was born here May 3, 1876 and will die here January 12, 1948. Mabel was born in
Stonington, Maine November 3, 1887 and will die here in 1954.

1892. He married Ella October 2, 1915. He will die here in Dixfield on March 1,

and Ella Whipple. She is a daughter of John Franklin Putnam and Adelaide
Goodrich of Danvers. She was with her dad in 1880 when he was just widowed and
living with his folks John C. Putnam and Louisa Knight. John remarried another
gal and was with her in Essex County in 1900, but Minnie was off somewhere else
by then. She was here in 1910 and with an uncle in Standish, Cumberland County
in 1920. She is here in 1940 and 1950

He is 35 ME ME ME and his wife Evelyn C. Miller is 25 ME. They have
Phyllis R. 6 ME and Ceylon E. Jr. 3 ME. He is a son of Joseph A. Putnam and
Annie Mae Delano, and was home here in 1900 and single here in 1920. He married
Evelyn here in Peru on January 1, 1922. Ceylon was born here January 10, 1892
and will be here till he dies in 1945. He works for a Packard car place. The
son Ceylon Elwood Junior was born June 25, 1925 and will die here in Peru
December 23, 1992. He will marry Mona E. Noyes in Dixfield August 17, 1946
according to the State marriage records. Ceylon is here in 1940 in one place
and Evelyn and the kids are in this house in 1935 and 1940. Got separated it seems.
JOSEPH A. (ALEXANDER) PUTNAM
Peru, Oxford County
He is 47 ME ME ME and divorced. His daughter Marie 21 is here too, He owns
a grocery store and she is a clerk there. He is a son of John Ames Putnam and
Clarinda Childs. He was married here in 1910, then missing in 1920. The age
should be 67 though. He will soon marry Bertha Killam or McLaughlin here on
March 7, 1931. There is a marriage record for both names, so one would be her
maiden name, the other from a previous marriage. Bertha is widowed here in 1940
so Joe died later on in the 1930s.
MELISSA J. PUTNAM

She is Melissa Burgess the widow of John Ames
Putnam, Jr. who was born here September 5, 1850 and died here April 25, 1918.
She is now 74 ME and her daughter Amy 39 ME. Amy was born May 24, 1889 and will
die in Dixfield in December 1985. They were here in 1920, and will be in 1940.

and they have Vivian 6 ME. Vivian is a boy as there is a marriage record of him
marrying Barbara Curtis here in West Peru on May 8, 1945. Her widowed mother
Almeda Richardson 73 ME is living with them as she was in 1920. He is a son of
John Ames Putnam and Melissa Gone Burgess, and was born here October 1, 1884
and will die here in Peru in October 1973.

Francis 19, Dana B. 14, Arthur Jr. 9 all ME. Also here is his widowed mother
Eunice Putnam 66 ME. He is a son of Francis Parker Putnam and was born here May
6, 1883 and will die here in November 1967. He married Rosa here June 24, 1909.
Rosa was born February 12, 1887 and will die in Dixfield in April 1978. The son
Francis will marry Doris Locke here June 24, 1945. The son Dana was born
November 23, 1915 and died here October 31, 1970. The son Arthur was born
December 30, 1920 and will be here in Rumford till he dies in February 1985.

Henry and Sarah Putnam from Winthrop. Henry is a son of John and Jane Putnam
from Prince Edward Island. William was home with his folks there in 1880 and
1900. In 1900 he was married to Lillian De Forrest. They were divorced there in
1910 and he must have married Isabelle around 1913. They were in Medford,

Everett Putnam a son of the Reverend Lewis Putnam and Ida Bisbee of Oxford
County. He was born there January 24, 1883 and will die here in Livermore Falls
May 2, 1947. He was there with his widowed mom in 1900 and was here in 1910
through 1930 with his wife Ethel Austin Thing. He married Ethel February 28, 1904
and they divorced in the early 1930s as he has been at this address without her

born in Maine June 4, 1912 and will die in Manchester, Connecticut June 6,
1993. Floyd works in a potatoes house, which the area is famous for. He lives 2
doors down from his brother Willard. His first wife Dorothy is living with her
folks way down in South Portland, and her daughter Janet is there with her.
FRED
PUTNAM Houlton, Aroostook County
He is Fred Lysander Putnam 59 ME ME ME and a gas and oil merchant
with his brother Arthur. His wife Mary Alice Pierce is 54 ME and they have
Albert 27 ME. He is a son of Albert Temple and Cordelia Putnam. Fred was born
November 18, 1880 and will die here on September 12. 1974. Mary was born in
Fort Fairfield January 13, 1886 and will die here November 3, 1978. The son
Albert was born here January 5, 1913, and will marry Mary Ann Madigan here on February
21, 1942. He will die here in Houlton May 2, 1966.
RANSOM
N. PUTNAM Houlton, Aroostook County
He is 48 ME ME ME. His wife Effie May Moores is
65 ME. They were married September 13, 1914. He is a son of Dean Blanchard
Putnam and Minnie Pollard from Cary, Aroostook County where he was born
November 9, 1890. He was home in 1900 and 1910 and married here in Houlton in
1930 and1935. Effie was born in Ludlow, Aroostook County April 21, 1877 and
died in 1958. Ransom will die here February 19, 1960 and both are buried in
Evergreen Cemetery here. They never had any children.
WALTER
PUTNAM Houlton, Aroostook County
He is 62 ME ME ME and is a farmer. His wife Almeda Hussey is 55 ME and
owns and runs a restaurant. Walter King Putnam is a son of Willard Houlton
Putnam and Mary Louise Ward from here. Walter was born here November 2, 1877.
Almeda is a daughter of Benjamin Hussey and Vesta Hall. She was born in
December 1884 and will die here in Houlton November 28, 1960. Walter will die
here in 1958. They were married here March 2, 1904.
WILLARD
PUTNAM Houlton, Aroostook County
He is 32 ME and his wife Verna L. Adams is also 32
ME and they have young Willard Adams Putnam 11 ME and David 6 ME. Willard
Houlton is a son of Walter King Putnam and Almeda Hussey from here. Willard was
born February 27, 1908 and will die here in Houlton October 16, 1975. Willard
and Verna were married here August 4, 1926. Verna was born in Littleton,
Aroostook County February 10, 1908 and will die October 3, 1948. Willard will
marry Norah Wilson here December 7, 1946. She is currently married to Robert
Lyons here in Maine now in 1940. Based on her grave, Nora was born December 11,
1918 and died in Houlton June 15, 1999. The son Willard will marry Beth Drake
July 29, 1978 and later Julie Ray Clark on June 8, 1991. Shortly WWII will get
going and Willard will join the Navy.
CHARLES
PUTNAM Presque Isle, Aroostook County
He is 36 ME and owns his farm. His wife Gladys M.
Mullen is 31 ME and they have Charles Jr. 13 ME, Joseph 11 ME, Donald 9 ME,
Russell 7 ME and twins Patricia and Priscilla 5 ME. Charles Royce Putnam is a
son of Samuel Putnam and Vesta Erskine from here. Charles was born here March 29,
1904 and will die here in Presque Isle on May 26, 1976. He and Gladys were
married here October 22, 1925. She is a daughter of Joseph Edwin Mullen and
Ella Mae Kearney and was born in Presque Isle July 18, 1908 and will die in
Caribou in August 1980. An obituary of her son Joseph states her name was
Gladys Bushey, so she was married before she married
Charlie. No firm ideas at all here. Now, something like a divorce will take
place as Charlie will later marry Bernice Hazel Knights who was previously
married to a Kinney. There is an obituary for Bernice Hazel Knights Putnam
saying she was a daughter of Alfred Hiram Knights and Lucy Adeline Cole and was
born June 4, 1909 in Brookton, Aroostook County and died there October 25,
2004. It says she was predeceased by two husbands, Otis Kinney and Charles
Putnam. Then, the son Joseph Putnam was born March 28, 1929 and will die in Van
Buren, Maine March 25, 2008. He will marry Betty Kierstead
of Caribou and they will have 3 sons and 4 daughters and his obituary says he
had two stepsons with the last name Long so Betty was married before him and
may have been his second wife. Joseph is here in 1950 with his first wife Eleanor.
LINWOOD
J. PUTNAM Presque Isle, Aroostook County
John Linwood Putnam is now 14 ME CT ME and listed
as a grandson of Stephen and Minnie Bryson. He was here in 1930 as well. In
1930 he was also listed in Hartford, Connecticut with his parents John J.
Putnam and Veronica Bryson. John lists his parents as both being born in
Germany so he is not a Putnam, folks probably had a name change when they came
over.

Also here is a nephew Ernest M. Estes 18 ME. He is a son of Lewis Child Putnam
and Ida Bisbee and was in Oxford County in 1900 and 1910, and was married here
in 1920 and 1930. He and Hattie were married December 30, 1919. Ralph was born
December 28, 1899 and will be here in Brunswick till he dies in February 1973.
He is lodging here and divorced in 1950. Hattie is alone here in 1950 and says
she is widowed.

Agnes Sawyer is 43 ME. He is a wholesale leather salesman. He is a son of
Arthur Putnam and Harriet Taylor from Danvers. He was born in Union County New
Jersey September 19, 1894. The family was in Union County New Jersey in 1900
and then back up in Melrose, Massachusetts in 1910 and 1920. He married Muriel
Percy VanAntwerp on September 14, 1928, got divorced
almost immediately and was living in the Back Bay of Boston in 1930 where he
was a divorced lumber salesman. Then he married Casta
in Montclair New Jersey. She had previously married Elwood Ross in Philadelphia
in 1900. Casta was born in March 1896 and at home in
Maine with her folks Truman and Marcie Sawyer in 1900. They were in Newton,
Middlesex County Massachusetts in 1935 and now here. Wonder where on earth they
or he will be in 1950

Ann 4 ME and they are lodging. She says she is married but Harold is missing.
Adeline Dobson married Harold Asherton Putnam on
December 26, 1930 as a Christmas Present to both. He is Harold Jr. and his
folks are listed below. The son Harold was born March 31, 1903 and die in Los
Angeles February 24, 1984. Adeline was born November 23, 1901 and will die in
Portland in December 1977. Harold is out in Los Angeles all by his lonesome in
1940 census. She is here still in 1950 and will be till she dies in December
1977. . Adele is a daughter of Joseph Dobson and Margaret Sibbering
Beauford and was born in Portland November 23, 1901 and will die here in
December 1977.

He is 49 ME single and boarding. He is a salesman
for an automobile company. He is a son of Joseph A. and Annie Putnam and was
with them in Peru, Oxford County in 1900 and 1910. He was born June 13, 1890
and will die in Portland in October 1967. He married Etta Demeritt
in Peru on December 24, 1910. When he registered for the draft in 1917, he was
married in Peru and worked for the Maine Central Railroad in Rumford. They were
in Peru in 1920. Etta was born in Peru January 12, 1885 and died in 1928. He
was widowed in Rumford, Oxford County in 1930 where he owned a garage. In 1935
he was in Mexico, Oxford County and now here. He is here alone in 1950.

He is a truck driver for the City Park Department.
He is 52 ME and his wife, or second wife Jennie Valento
is 60 ITALY. He is a son of Ira Nelson Putnam and Abbie Baird from Oxford

Putnam and his second wife Myra Bickford. He was born in Lewiston, Androscoggin
County November 1, 1876. He was home in Lewiston in 1880, boarding in Augusta
in 1900 and married here in 1910 on. He will die here June 29, 1944. Their son
Philip lives with them or next door. Catherine will go live with her brother
Jeremiah McCarthy in Auburn, Androscoggin County and is there in the 1950 and
will die there October 11, 1959.
HARRY
M. (MERRILL) PUTNAM Portland, Cumberland
County
He is 29 VT and his wife Frances Louise Hayden is
30 ME and they have Judith P. 3 ME. He married Frances here June 23, 1935. They
live with her parents Fred and Edith Hayden as they did in 1935. They will be
divorced by 1950. Harry is an attorney at law in his own practice. He is a son
of Harry F. Putnam and Grace Merrill from Cheshire County New Hampshire. They
were all here in 1930 and his folks are nearby in Benton, Kennebec County.
Harry was born October 28, 1910 in Rutland, Vermont and will die in Huntington,
Arkansas in November 1981. Frances was born here in Portland January 11, 1910
and will die in January 1990.

He is a son of the above Harold and Kate and lives
next to them. He is 31 ME and an auditor at a liquor store. His wife Irene
Marie Jacques is also 31 ME. They have Philip C. Junior 4 ME. They were married
here September 1, 1934.
SHELBY

He is 31 ME single and boarding with an Anderson
Family. He is a roofer at a sheet metal building materials factory here. He is
a son of Marion Gardiner Putnam and Lela Schofield from Portland. Shelby was
born June 4, 1908 and will die June 25, 2003 here in Maine. He will marry Ruth
Bryce and live in Scarborough Maine. His dad was a son of Henry Gardiner
Putnam, Dutch Family out of Whiteside County Illinois. That family moved to
Dallas Texas and Henry married Lela there. They were here in Portland in 1910
and then in 1915 Marion simply took off and abandoned the family. Lela
remarried and Shelby was off on his own. He was in the Air Force in Hempstead
Long Island New York in 1930 as a private. He is still here with the Andersons
in 1950. Dutch Pootman family originally from
Montgomery County New York in the mid 1600s.

He is 69 NY but I believe it is NH, and his wife
Carrie F. DeNico is 46 ME. Their son Alfred H. is 40
ME and his wife Gladys Shaw is 32 ME. They were married in Augusta May 9, 1931
and have Carolyn M. 5 MA and Roger H. 1 ME. Walter is a wood worker and works
in a furniture factory. They have been in Somerset County in 1900 through 1920
and here in 1930 and 1935. He is a son of John Benedict Putnam and Aurilla Searles from Nashua, New Hampshire.
DOROTHY
A. (ARLENE) PUTNAM South Portland,
Cumberland County
She is 29 ME and has her daughter Janet A. 11 ME. She
lives with her parents Arthur and Sally McAubrey.
Dorothy McAubrey married Floyd Putnam a thousand
miles away up in Houlton, Aroostook County on June 2, 1928. They divorced a
couple of years later and she moved back in with her folks about 1932 or 1933.
Floyd remarried Evelyn Knapp back up there September 21, 1935. Dorothy must
have decided she didn’t like living hundreds of miles above the Canadian
Border.
JOHN
PUTNAM Chisholm, Franklin County
He is now 69 ME and his wife Augusta Davis Jewell
57 ME. He was single in Androscoggin County in 1900 and still single in Wilton,
Franklin County in 1910. They were married here in Jay, Franklin County on
August 30, 1915 and were there in 1920 and 1930. He works in a paper mill as he
has for years. Rand found a marriage record that he was the son of John R. and Chestina Putnam and was born in Peru, Oxford County. Can’t
find any folks by that name. Maybe he was adopted or something.

F. (FRANKLIN) PUTNAM Benton, Kennebec
County
He is 50 NH NH NH and his wife Grace Georgia Merrill 50 CAN. They have
Grace 15 NH still with them. He owns a life insurance agency. Harry is a son of
Arthur O. Putnam and May Franklin from Sullivan and then Cheshire County New
Hampshire. He was at home in Walpole, Cheshire County New Hampshire in 1900. He
was born there July 27, 1889 and will die in Nevada County California January
31, 1962. They were in Park County, Wyoming in 1910 and in Rockingham County,
New Hampshire in 1920. In 1930 they were in Portland, Cumberland County Maine
and in 1935 in Dover, Piscataquis County Maine. Also, in 1910 Grace was with
her folks, Martin Merrill and Nettie Wilkinson in Coos County, New Hampshire.
Grace was born August 31, 1891 and will die in Riverside, California December
27, 1966.
HENRY
J. (JAMES) PUTNAM Chelsea, Kennebec
County
He is 50 MA and single. He is in the Veteran’s
Administration Reservation. Don’t know if it is a hospital or a place of
boarding. Lots of people here. Anyway, he is a son of Wilbur Allen Putnam and
Mary E. Dollard and was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts March 11, 1890. He
was with his widowed mother Mary Putnam there in 1900 and 1910. He briefly
married Ada Shepard and they were divorced by 1920 when he was by himself in
Boston. In 1930 and 1935 he was back in New Bedford selling advertising and
boarding. He won’t be here long as he is back in New Bedford and still alone in
1942 when he registered for the draft in WW II and was still working for
Hathaway Advertising.

family. She is a daughter of Wilder Putnam and was in Waterville where he still

Eugene’s wife Aletha Eastman is 16 ME. Also here is Robert Letteney
30 ME and his son Hollis Lettney 2 ME. Robert married
their daughter Audrey August 16, 1937. Albert is a son of George Benjamin Putnam
and Mary Morrill. He was born here in Kennebec County, then moved with his
folks to California and they were in Siskiyou County California in 1900. Then
they came back out here and were here in 1910 through 1930. His brother George
lives nearby in Randolph. The son Eugene was born May 2, 1917 and will die in
Gardiner, Maine Christmas Day 1992. He married Aletha Eastman on March 24,
1940. Harlan was born April 8, 1918 and will die in Gardiner Maine September 1,
1995. He will marry Almosa M. Vigue
here on October 11, 1941. Albert will die here in 1946 and Mearle
will be here with their married daughter Audrey in 1950.

Putnam and Mary Morrill. He was born March 31, 1888 here in Pittston, Kennebec
County, moved with his folks to California and were in Siskiyou County in 1900.
Then they all came back out here and were in Pittston, Kennebec County in 1910.
Then I guess their mom died here, and their dad went back to San Mateo,
California living with their sister Harriet Clark. They were married September
2, 1913 and were here in 1920 and 1930. The son Kenneth will marry Helen Frohock June 15, 1940, and then marry Corrine Fuller
November 22, 1944. Burleigh was born January 17, 1925 and will die in Gardiner,
Maine in October 1987. He will marry Isabelle Gordon February 26, 1946, and
Lindsay will marry Violet Gordon (sisters) here April 7, 1947.

He is a 30 NH single and a teacher at a private
school, Coburn Classical Institute. He is a son of Earl McIntire Putnam and
Caroline Kendall from Claremont, Sullivan County New Hampshire. He was born
there January 27, 1909, and was there through the 1930 census. He was in
Fitchburg, Massachusetts in 1935 probably in school or teaching. He will marry
Irene S. Cook here December 28, 1941. She was born October 21, 1915 and will
die in Portland July 1, 2004. Elmore will die in Oxford, Maine November 5,
1995. They are in Rocky Hill, Connecticut in 1950 where he is a public-school
teacher.

now a housekeeper with a Fossett family in Oakland, Kennebec County. He is a
son of John Graham Putnam and Susan McDonald Douglas from Maitland, Hants, Nova
Scotia. He was born there March 16, 1877. He married Nellie Cook from here in Waterville
July 26, 1917, and they went back to Maitland. He ran a store there until 1923
and then came down here in 1924. Nellie was born January 1, 1895 and she died
here April 26, 1925. He will remain in Maine until he dies October 14, 1955.

They have been here all their lives. Their dad died here March 7, 1922 and mom
December 27, 1925. Clifford was born here October 19, 1874 and will die here in
November 1948. Jennie Alice was born July 23, 1877 and will die here in March
1949. They never married.

He is 63 ME ME ME and his wife Mabel Barbour 52 ME. Also here is Estelle
B. Jackson 15 ME who is a daughter of their daughter Mary Lillian Putnam who
married Samuel Theodore Jackson here November 3, 1923. Mary was born June 5,
1906 and died in Rockland, Knox County February 2, 1933 very possibly in the
birth of Estelle. Israel is a son of George Llewellyn Putnam and Mary Dunning
Rowell. He married Mabel Stinson Barbour November 5, 1905 in Stonington, Maine.
They will be here the rest of their lives. Israel was born here May 3, 1876 and
will die here January 12, 1948. Mabel was born in Stonington, Maine November 3,
1887 and will die here in 1954.

PUTNAM Dixfield, Oxford County
He is John Ames Putnam III 49 ME and works in a
lumber mill. His wife Ella Edith Bartlett is 66 ME and they have Grace 2l ME.
Also here is their married daughter Florence Edward 23 ME and her husband John Edward 24 ME. They
were here in 1920 on. He is a son of John Ames Putnam and Melissa Burgess, and
was born here December 11, 1892. He married Ella October 2, 1915. He will die
here in Dixfield on March 1, 1956.
FLORENCE M. (MAUDE) PUTNAM Hiram, Oxford County
She is 66 MA and single. She has her aunt Ella
Whipple 87 MA with her. She is a niece of Homer and Ella Whipple. She is a
daughter of John Franklin Putnam and Adelaide Goodrich of Danvers. She was with
her dad in 1880 when he was just widowed and living with his folks John C.
Putnam and Louisa Knight. John remarried another gal and was with her in Essex
County in 1900, but Minnie was off somewhere else by then. She was here in 1910
and with an uncle in Standish, Cumberland County in 1920 and here in 1930 and
now. She is here still in 1950.
ME ME and is still an
automobile salesman. His wife Viola M. Peters is 34 ME, and they have Carl E.
18 ME, Pauline 14 ME, and Marilyn 12 ME, Dorothy 9 ME, Lorraine 7 ME and Robert
3/12 ME. He is a son of Joseph Putnam and Annie Mae Delano from here in Peru.
He was born May 9, 1897 and will die in Kittery, Maine January 14, 1971. He
married Viola from Bath on February 7, 1921. The son Carl will be in Bath and
marry Lorraine M. Richards February 16, 1941 and later marry Blanche M. Lyons
back here in Rumford January 24, 1947. He is a patient in the Veterans Administration
Facility in Kennebec, Maine in 1950. The rest of the family isn’t listed here
in 1950.
AMY
A. (ALBERTA) PUTNAM Peru, Oxford County
She is 50 ME and her widowed mother Melissa G. is
86 ME. Also here is Lester Childs 44 ME and a housekeeper Nellie Adams 63 ME.
Amy is the daughter of John Ames Putnam, Jr. who was born here September 5,
1850 and died here April 25, 1918 and Melissa Gene Burgess. Melissa was born
April 5, 1853 here in Peru and will die here August 29, 1941. Amy was born May
24, 1889 and will die in Dixfield in December 1985. Lester Lee Childs is a son
of Arthur Child and Lucy Putnam. Lucy was Amy’s sister who died in 1898. Lester
was born February 26, 1896 and will die in Portland probably in a hospital
April 19, 1968. He never married.
CEYLON
E. (ELWOOD) PUTNAM Peru, Oxford County
He is 48 ME and says he is married, but his wife
and family are in another house in town. Maybe a separation or pending divorce.
Don’t know. He is an inspector for the Railroad. He is a son of Joseph A. Putnam
and Annie Mae Delano, and was home here in 1900 and single here in 1920. Ceylon
was born here January 10, 1892 and will be here till he dies in 1945. He
married Evelyn C. Miller here in Peru on January 1, 1922 and they were here
with 2 kids in 1930.
EVELYN
C. PUTNAM Peru, Oxford County
Evelyn C. Miller is 35 ME and has Phyllis R. 16 ME
and Ceylon E. Jr. 14 ME, and Merwyn 9 ME. The M for married after her name is
scratched through with a line. She married Ceylon Elwood Putnam here January 1,
1922 and they were here in 1930. He is still in town but living by himself.
Separated or getting divorced, I guess. Also here is her mommy Olive V. Miller
74 ME and widowed. There is a lodger, Ralph Brown 48 IN who says he was here in
1935 as well. Evelyn and Ralph are here in 1950, kids all off and running.

He is 55 ME ME ME and owns a farm. His wife Mabel A. Richardson is 45 ME
and they have a son Vivian S. 16 ME. They were married here July 4,1915. Also
here is Mabel’s sister Florence Richardson 62 ME. Oscar is
a son of John Ames Putnam Junior and Melissa Gene Burgess, and was born here
October 1, 1884 and will die here in Peru in October 1973. Mabel was born here
in Peru April 18, 1894 and will die here October 13, 1961. Vivian S. is a boy
born September 28, 1923 and will die in College Park, Maryland July 12, 1999.
He married Barbara Arline Curtis in West Peru May 8, 1945. She was born in
Rumford June 25, 1922 and will die in Windham, Cumberland County Maine June 29,
2009. They must have gotten a divorce in the later 1960s as she married Robert
Hull June 26, 1971 in Maryland and was living in Bowie, Maryland in 1986 for
what that’s worthy. I don’t think Vivian ever married again. Think he was the
source of Johnny Cash’s song, A Boy Named
Sue.

He is now 55 ME ME ME, a farmer, and his wife Rosa Littlefield is 43 NH. They
have Francis Parker Putnam 29, Arthur Guy Putnam Jr. 19 all ME. Arthur Guy
Putnam is a son of Francis Parker Putnam and Eunice Ellen Whitehouse and was
born here May 6, 1883 and will die here in November 1967. He married Ruth here
June 24, 1909. Ruth was born February 12, 1887 and will die in Dixfield in
April 1978. The son Francis will marry Doris Locke here June 24, 1945. The son
Dana was born November 23, 1915 and will die here October 31, 1970. The son
Arthur was born December 30, 1920 and will be here in Rumford till he dies in
February 1985. Now, a little interesting tidbit. His mom Eunice Whitehouse was
a daughter of Benjamin Whitehouse and Susan Cobb Putnam who was a daughter of
Stephen Putnam III and Lucy Cobb from here in Rumford. She was born here
January 16, 1819 and died later in Cambridge, Massachusetts November 6, 1870.
BERTHA
PUTNAM Rumford, Oxford County
She is 60 CAN and widowed. Okay this is
interesting. She is Bertha Killam. She married Joseph Alexander Putnam here
March 7, 1931. He was a son of John Ames Putnam and Clarinda Child from here
and died sometime in the 1930s. Bertha is living with her married daughter Ruth
Neal 27 ME, her husband Charles Neal and 4 kids named Blowers from a prior
marriage Ruth had. She is in Calais, Washington County in 1950 as a
housekeeper.
DANA
PUTNAM Rumford, Oxford County
He is 24 ME and his wife Dorothy Chamberlain is 27
CT. They were married and living here in 1935. He works in a paper mill. He is
a son of Arthur Guy Putnam and Rosa Littlefield and was born here November 23,
1915 and will die here October 31, 1970.
HARRY
T. (THOMAS) PUTNAM Brewer, Penobscot
County
He is now 50 ME and his wife Amanda E. Hartley is
50 CAN. Also here is their now married daughter Helen M. Babine 25 ME, and her
husband Francis Babine 26 ME. Amanda’s brother Wendell Hartley 35 CAN is still
with them and they have a boarder Melvin Coffin 23 ME. He is a son of Fred and
Marcia Putnam. He was born in Glenwood, Aroostook County, and then was with the
family in Waldo County in 1900 through 1920 and then here in 1930 and 1935.
JAMES E. PUTNAM Dixmont, Penobscot
County
He is 73 ME married and boarding with Frank 58 ME
and Josie 47 ME Murphy. He is a son of Daniel Putnam and his second wife
Sarah Tasker. He is also listed in Waldo County where he spent his whole life.
DORIS
PUTMAN Newport, Penobscot County
She is 50 ME widowed and living by herself. She
says she was at this address in 1935. Can’t find her earlier.
FOREST
T. (THAYER) PUTNAM Bath, Sagadahoc
County
He is 58 MA NH NH and is
a janitor at the hospital. His wife Mary L. McNeil is 61 CAN. They were here in
1920 and 1930. He is a son of Lucius Brooks Putnam and Martha Ellen Hovey. He
and his brother Lawrence were in Pepperell, Massachusetts in 1900, and with
their widowed mother in Bath in 1910. He married Mary here in Bath on June 29,
1910. He was born January 1, 1882 and will die in October 1964.
LAWRENCE H. (HOVEY)
PUTNAM Woolwich, Sagadahoc County
He is 53 MA and his wife Eunice Moore is 51 ME. He
is a son of Lucius Brooks Putnam and Martha Hovey. He and his brother Forest
were in Pepperell, Massachusetts in 1900 and with their widowed mother in Bath,
Sagadahoc County in 1910. Both brothers were in Bath in 1920 and Lawrence was
here in 1930.
BERNARD
PUTMAN Bingham, Somerset County
He is 59 ME and widowed. He is a son of the
Reverend Lewis Putnam and Ida Bisbee and was born in Peru, Oxford County in
December 1881. He was home there with his widowed mom in 1900. He married
Myrtle Dixon there April 19, 1902. They were there in 1910 and 1902 and I
haven’t found them in 1930, but he was there in 1935
JAMES
E. PUTNAM Jackson, Waldo County
He is widowed now and is 72 ME. He is a son of
Daniel Jones Putnam and his second wife Sarah Ann Tasker and was born right
here August 5, 1868. He married Flora Belle Field here December 27, 1892. They
were here in 1900, 1910 and 1920. Belle was born in August 1871. I can’t find
them in 1930. Belle died here in 1937.
ZENAS
PUTNAM Monroe, Waldo County
He is 58 ME ME ME and owns a farm. His wife Emily A. Brown is 57 ME and
they have Neil C. 19 ME, Hugh F. 16 ME, and Mary E. 11 ME. He is a son of Fred
and Marcia Putnam and was born here. He married Emily December 31, 1919. The
son Neal or Neil will marry Addie L. Austin here on October 16, 1942.
HENRY
H. (HARRISON) PUTNAM Danforth,
Washington County
He is Henry Junior 67 ME ME
ME and his brother EDGAR PUTNAM is 62 ME ME ME. They are kids of Henry Harrison Putnam and Frances H. McQuire. Also here is Lottie Mae Bartlett 57 CAN a
housekeeper. She was with Henry and Frances as a housekeeper here in 1900, then
married and is now widowed and back here. You have to remember that Washington
County is way up in the wilds on the Canadian border and not a lot of folks around.
Edgar was in Rockport, Knox County in 1930 and is still here in 1950.
VARNEY
A. (ARTHUR) PUTNAM Danforth, Washington
County
He is 64 ME ME ME and out of work. Minnie A. Bubar
his wife is 62 ME. He is a son of Henry Harrison Putnam and Frances McGuire
originally from Houlton, Aroostook County in 1880, and here in 1900. They were
married here September 21, 1904. Varney Arthur Putnam was born October 11, 1875
here in Danforth and he will die May 10, 1950. He is buried in Houlton. Minnie
is a daughter of George and Mary Bubar and was born
in Danforth May 27, 1877 and will die June 16, 1947 and buried in Houlton. They
were here married from 1910 on.
RONALD D. (DURWOOD) PUTNAM Eastport, Washington County
He is 3 ME and a stepson of William and Geraldine Follis.
Geraldine Harriet Call married John Richard Putnam a son of William Arthur
Putnam and Rebecca Reid George from Hillsborough County New Hampshire. They
were married here August 17, 1935 and then he scooted back to New Hampshire and
married Alice Leona Patten in Bristol County New Hampshire November 14, 1936.
That lasted longer till he married Margaret Lois Golling
in Wilton New Hampshire December 24, 1946. Geraldine married William Follis in
Eastport March 30, 1940 and they are all here in the 1950 census. Ronald was
born November 29, 1936 and will die in 2009 somewhere. He will marry Mary Ann
Tucker in Grantham, New Hampshire October 9, 1965 and later marry Judith Ann
Wardwell back in Calais, Maine June 22, 1974.
WILLIAM PUTNAM Jonesport,
Washington County
He is 62 MA and his wife Isabelle is 58 ME. He is a
son of Henry and Sarah Putnam from Winthrop, Massachusetts. Henry is a son of
John and Jane Putnam from Prince Edward Island Canada. William was home with
his folks there in 1880 and 1900. In 1900 he was married to Lillian De Forrest.
They were divorced there in 1910 and he must have married Isabelle around 1913.
They were in Medford, Massachusetts in 1920 and up here in 1930 and 1935. He’s
been a lobsterman all his life like his dad. His son William Henry Putnam 24 MA
is still living at home. He wasn’t counted in the initial entry as he was at
sea at the time but was added in 2 pages later. Bill is widowed here in 1950.

County
He is 69 MA and married to Flossie Lewis 49 ME and
her widowed mother Estelle Annie Lewis 77 ME is with them. He is a Baptist
Preacher. He is Amasa Spaulding Putnam a son of
Lawson Putnam (#2170) and Sarah R. C.
Johnson and was born in Sutton, Worcester County Massachusetts December 5, 1870
and was at home there in 1880. He was in Coventry, Rhode Island in 1900, 1910
and 1920 married to an Ida born in Massachusetts. She must have died as he came
back up here and married Flossie in Biddeford August 17, 1926. They were here
in 1930 and are in the same house they were in here in 1935. He will die July
17, 1941 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
LILLIAN
PUTNAM Sanford, York County
She is 33 ME and living with her mother Alberta 57
ME and stepfather Ernest Harrison 55 ENG. Lillian Spence married Raymond Putnam
in York November 26, 1926. He is now back home with his folks William Putnam
and Lucy Downs. Getting a divorce, I would guess.
J.
(JOSEPH) CONRAD PUTNAM York, York County
He is 44 ME and single. His married sister Gretchen
Payne 30 ME and her son Putnam Payne 12 ME are with him. They are children of
Perley and Sophia Putnam from here. The folks have died. Perley died December
10, 1923 and Sophia on February 3, 1920. They were all three here in 1930.
Joseph Conrad was born February 15, 1897. He married Veronica Norton here on
May 1, 1933.They got divorced. Gretchen Juanita was born June 22, 1899 and will
die in April 1974. She married Frederick George Payne, Jr. here on October 9,
1924.
RITA
PUTNAM York, York County
She is now 52 ME and in the York Hospital as she
was in 1935. She is Marguerite Typhena Putnam
daughter of Perley Joseph Putnam and Sophia Marshall from here. She was born
August 11, 1888 and will die here January 1, 1945. She never married.
WILLIAM
F. (FERNALD) PUTNAM York, York County
He is 52 ME ME ME and his wife Lucy Downs is 54 ME. Also here is their son Raymond L. 36 ME. Ray
is marked M for married, but a line is through it. He married Lillian Spence
here November 26, 1926. They were in Manchester, Connecticut in 1930 and she’s
kinda gone now. He was back here in 1935 and not sure where she was then
either. Probably a divorce. William owns a grocery store. He is a son of
William Sewell Putnam and Fanny Fernald. He was born here and just married here
in 1910. Lucy was born March 24, 1885 and will die here August 15, 1967. She is
widowed here in 1950.
WILLIAM
P. PUTNAM York, York County
He is 28 ME and a welder in a shipyard. His wife
Jennifer Boloski is 21 CT. They were married June 30,
1937. In 1935 he was in Groton, Connecticut where there is a Navy Submarine
Shipyard and she was in New London, Connecticut, the city just across the
river. They have a daughter Judith 1 ME. They live with his folks William
Putnam and Lucy Downs here in town. They pay him a whopping $17 a month rent.
His folkճ house is worth a staggering $4000.
Anyway, something will happen and he will marry Dorothy Callahan of Kittery on
December 20, 1952. Dorothy was born October 26, 1896 and will die in Wells in
June 1985.
