In the
1830 census both males and females are listed 0-4, 5-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29,
30-39, 40-49, 50-59, etc. I am listing these records by county, then town, and
proximity of listings to each other.
Listing

like Joel’s family that was in Lee in 1820. The two towns abut
each other. His wife was initially Sally, but Mary could have been a second
wife. Not much is known (by me at least) on this family. At any rate they are
all out of here by 1840.

The 19 year old is his brother John. His father died
here January 21, 1826. That’s his mom in the far right
hand column, and she will die here March 4, 1836. Henry married Martha Boardman
here September 1, 1824. He and his brother will be here in 1840.

and Maria Knight have been here a while now. He is Peter Schuyler Putnam’s son.
His dad died in September 1827 and his mother Lucy died October 1829. His
brothers have all headed out to New York State. He is a lawyer in North Adams.
His dad, Peter, was a son of General Israel Putnam.

married Mary O. Merrill in Andover November 17, 1825.

Lyndeborough, New Hampshire in about 1796. He headed down here and married Mary
Hawkes in Lynnfield April 18, 1820. They were here in 1820 and will be again in

Mass. December 4, 1784, and will die here shortly in 1833. He married Abigail
Brigham Fay in Andover on November 21, 1816. She will be living with a
Parkhurst family here in 1850.

herself in 1843. Their son William is listed in Salem.

not in the index, but is still here. He is number 841, a son of Aaron Putnam
(313) and Lydia Waters. He married Mary Putman a (716) daughter of Deacon Asa
Putnam (258). He will die here in 1836, she on January 28, 1840.

April 20, 1791. He married Mary Davis of Lynn on June 14, 1814. Heլl be around in Peabody in 1870 at age 80, and die later

then in 1837 go to New York City.

April 29, 1783 and she will die here April 18, 1856. He will die here in
Danvers April 1, 1864.

born October 9, 1872 and will die here October 23, 1864. He started early in
the shoe business and rose to become one of the largest manufacturers and
wealthiest men in Peabody (part of Danvers then).

November 22, 1776 and will die here July 24, 1834. He married Deborah Brown on
December 1, 1801. She was born in Boxford October 22, 1782 and will be around
through the 1860 census when she will be 78. The older woman is his mother
Lydia Waters Putnam who will die shortly on January 23, 1831 at the age of 94.

his wife is a cousin, Susannah Putnam. He is a son of Israel Putnam (236) and
his first wife Sarah Eppes. He was born here March 8, 1774 and will be here
until he dies February 10, 1854.

1825. Emme will pass away on July 10, 1831. The other woman here is their

of 1812 and rose to the rank of Colonel. He was a farmer in Danvers.

Gloucester and Salem. He was born February 26, 1804 either here or in
Marblehead. Mary will die here August 21, 1834. He will later marry Margaret
McNeil. Jim will be missing or living with his folks in 1840, but die before
1850. Their kids will be here in 1850.

in Charlestown, New Hampshire in about 1794. I have nothing on him except the
birth record in the IGI. He is gone by 1840. Thomas Putnam , his dad, is NOT of
the line of John Putnam of Salem. He came from Yorkshire in northern England to
Hartford, Connecticut in about 1785. He was in Vermont by 1790 and then bounced
to New Hampshire and then back to Vermont.

1801. His wife is Martha Downing, they were married in Saugus February 17,
1822. The older woman is his mother Betsy. The City of
Lynn wasn’t indexed in 1840, so they may have been there or moved. They are in
Hamilton, Madison County, New York by 1850 at any rate.

married Rebecca Patch in Lynn on November 30, 1823. He too is not listed in
1840, but will be in Saugus, Essex County in 1850. Also
his brother, John F. Putnam, who is not listed here will be in Lynn in 1850.

and will die here November 22, 1864. Sam graduated Harvard and was a lawyer
here in town. He has just received his Doctor of Laws degree from Cambridge in
England in 1825, and is now sitting on the State Supreme Court. All told he
will be a judge for some 28 years.

Fiske. He was born here in Salem on September 6, 1797. He married Elizabeth
Ward Appleton here September 25, 1827. There is something amiss in the females
listing, as Elizabeth is now 25 and they only have one child, Charles Appleton
age 2. He is the grandfather of the Eben Putnam who
wrote the History of the Putnam Family
(1908).

County in far western New York for the 1840 and 1850 censuses. Aaron will die
in Fredonia, Chautaugua County March 29, 1880.

Houston Dispean who died in about 1820. He then

after returning from New York as a child. He is a scythe manufacturer.

elder woman is his mother Sally Rich who is the widow of John Putnam (746) who
died January 13, 1827. In a couple of years, this family will join others from
New Salem, including his brother Joshua, in Houlton, Way up there
County, Maine. He will marry Elizabeth Jenkins there in 1837 and will be there
the rest of his life.

moved up from Wendell. Shortly he, his brother Aaron and mother Rhoda Gates
Putnam will head off to the far western tip of New York and settle in Pomfret, Chautaugua County.

mark, just don’t know his folks, but based on what his son George states in
1880 he was born in Vermont. They were in Boston in 1820. There is an obituary
that Lewis died in East Cambridge September 17, 1834 at age 51. He is shown
here in his 40s. He married Lucy Lewis here June 5, 1814. She will also die
there, but in December 1837. Lucy was a daughter of Ebenezer Lewis and Ruth
Parker and was born November 12, 1793 in Groton, Middlesex County
Massachusetts. Still no ideas on Lewis’ folks.

son of David Putnam (471) and Hannah Bailey of Charlestown, NH. He married Mary
Hill in Malden June 8,1826. They will be here in 1840, and his parents will
both be here living with them then. In 1850, James and his family and his
father David will be here. By 1860, only Mary and the kids will be around.

January 20, 1801, and married Sarah Rice in Hancock, N.H. in June 1823. In
1840, they will be in Nashua, N.H., living near his father Gideon. They will
head to Benton County, Iowa in 1854 and remain there until his death, as will
his kids (in Iowa at least).

Brothers. He married Dorothy ‘Dolly’ Park in Cambridge July 9, 1803. In 1810
and 1820 they were in West Cambridge, Middlesex County, and have moved here
recently. They will be here in 1840, and Dorothy will be shown as a widow here
in 1850.

born here September 4, 1782 and will die October 6, 1834. He is married to
Eunice Hayward. She died October 28, 1824, and he married Nancy Graves on June
28, 1825. Nancy will be here through the 1860 census.

1825. They will be back in New Hampshire, living in Nashua in 1850. They will
remain there. He will die in the Concord, New Hampshire Insane Asylum January
16, 1865.

Putnam, number 1750. He is a son of Daniel Putnam (726) and Rachel Small of
Danvers and then Fitchburg where Daniel died in 1813. George was born in
Fitchburg July 21, 1780. He married Mary ‘Molly’ Carter in Fitchburg about
1804. They were in Fitchburg in 1810 and 1820, and Polly will be widowed here
in 1840. The rest of all of Daniel’s sons are still in Fitchburg and in
Lunenburg.

1840, then gone. In 1850, there is a Hiram here born in 1825. The IGI states he
is a son of William and Susan Putnam, and was born in 1825 in Sharon, Norfolk
County. There is also a marriage record of William Putnam marrying Susan Briggs

born in Petersham. They are in Athol in 1840 and he
