PUTNAM NEWTON
Clinton, Worcester County
Yes
he is a Newton. He is now 62 IN VTVT and has a printing shop. His wife Emily
Ellen Schumacher is a teacher 46 MA GER GER and they
have been married 15 years. Here is the story: Putnam
Newton is actually a Newton whose family is from Vermont, and this entry is
accurate. In fact there is also another Putnam Newton in Vermont. Putnam first
appears in the 1850 Steuben County Indiana Census and then again in 1860.
Indiana was where Ezra Nelson Putnam and Newton Putnam also from Vermont came
at the exact same time in 1837 to Indiana. There several problems in Indiana,
and Newton Putnam and Putnam Newton
both returned with their separate families to Clinton, Worcester County
Massachusetts and show up there in 1880, 1900 and 1910. Then even more
interesting they were both printers
and most likely in the same printing place in Clinton that they probably owned
together. More that a simple coincidence. Obviously
the Putnam, Newton and Nelsen families all went up to Vermont
either together or met and joined up there and many went together to Indiana in
1836-37. Putnam Newton was born in
Orland, Steuben County Indiana February 17, 1837 and will die in Clinton,
Worcester County Massachusetts May 2, 1910. Putnam Newton was 13 IN VT VT and with his parents Nelson Newton 41 VT and his second
wife Caroline Weatherwax Green 31 NY in Orland, Steuben County Indiana.
Putnam’s mom was the first wife Mary Stocker from Vermont who died January 17,
1842 in Indiana. In 1960 Putnam was still with his folks in Millgrove,
Steuben County. Put Newton was in Clinton, Worcester County Mass. Along with
Newton Putnam in 1880 and Putnam married Emily Ellen Schumacher, a teacher, in
Clinton, Massachusetts July 2, 1884. She was born in Lancaster, Worcester
County Massachusetts September 4, 1853 and died in Clinton August 12, 1934. I
am only listing this guy in the MA 1900, but they are here in 1910. This is
simply to show Putnam Newton is not
Newton or Nelson Putnam, but that the three families must have been pretty good
friends and maybe married among themselves earlier on. Just interesting, I
think.
