Hawaii
was a kingdom and then a Republic from 1894 till 1898 when it ceded itself to the
United States mostly as a result of the Spanish American War. It became a
Territory in 1900 and the 50th State on August 21, 1959. Interesting
if you were white you were listed as being of the Octoroon race.
There

10 WA. He is an officer in the U. S. Army. He is a son of Henry Locke Putnam
(2405) and Mary Elizabeth Wood. He was born in Malden Mass. and his dad was
from Newburyport Mass. He was a second lieutenant stationed at Coupeville,
Washington in 1900. I assume he is probably a major by now. He is also listed
in the Military census for 1910.
She is
20 MI MN MI and single. She is boarding and does office work. She is a daughter
of Arthur Alonzo Putnam and Edith Palmer. She was born in Michigan in February
1899 and was with the family in Nobles County Minnesota in 1900. At the time
they were living with Arthur’s folks Worthy Adelbert Putnam and Mary Ellen
Welch.

YMCA. He is a son of Israel and Venetta Putnam and was home in Marshall,
Richland County Wisconsin in 1900 and in Lincoln County Wisconsin in 1910. The
family was from Vermont before that. He will marry Rena Muriel Albrecht from Wisconsin
soon and they will have a daughter Elizabeth here in 1922 and Virginia in 1926.
She is probably out here working with Jim. He was born in Ash Ridge Wisconsin
June 6, 1894 and will die in Los Angeles June 3, 1979. Rena was born in
Merrill, Wisconsin October 2, 1899 and will die in Orange, California October
13, 1984. They will be in Brooklyn, New York in 1930 and 1940 and still working
for the YMCA there.

Public School teacher. He is married in Hilo on the island of Hawaii in 1930.
He is the son of Daniel Cady Putnam and Louise Avery from Princeton,
Massachusetts. He was born March 29, 1885 in Rutland, Massachusetts. He was at
home with his then divorced mother in 1900.

manager for an automobile garage. He is Charles Uzziel Putnam a son of John
Anderson Putnam and Ruth Ellen Holmes, both from Illinois. He was born while
the family was in Wapello County Iowa in the early 1900s. In 1910 he was with
his folks in Monroe County Missouri. He then came out here to Hawaii and will
be here and die in the 1930s. He was married to Emma Boyd in the mid 1920s.
They are divorced and Emma and the kids are living with her widowed mother
Henrietta Boyd in Honolulu.

Sumner Putnam also out of Rutland. He was at home there with his divorced
mother in 1900. They are here in 1935 and 1940 and he will register for the
Navy in 1942. They are still here teaching in 1950.
IRENE L. T. PUTNAM Honolulu, Oahu Island
She is
25 WI WI MN and a stenographer in the Territorial
Government Office. She says she is married but is by herself with a couple of
boarders. She is kinda the right age for the Irene born in Wisconsin who is
married to Charles Putnam in Kenosha, Wisconsin, but that Irene is there now
with him in Kenosha at age 23 WI. Maybe….but don’t think her. I wonder if the
initials L.T. means ‘Lets Try’?

is 47 KY and Stanley B. 18 KS. Also here is their married daughter Virginia
Voss 16 KS. He is a son of David Thomas Putnam and Sarah Margaret Hensley. He
was born in Mercer County Missouri and was with the family in Cowley County
Kansas in 1900. He is a Warrant Officer in the Army, and has been stationed at
Fort Monroe in Elizabeth City Virginia in 1910 and 1920. Dutch Family from New
York.
She is
26 HI PA HI and divorced. She has Lawrence 7 HI IL HI and Ruth 5 HI IL HI. They
live with her widowed mother Henrietta Boyd 66 HI. Emma is a saleslady in a dry
goods store. According to the daughter Ruth, Emma married Charles Uzziel Putnam
in May 1925 here in Hawaii. He is currently listed in South Hilo, Hawaii Island
(see above).

Island. He is Charles Wilbur Putnam a son of Charles Freeman Putnam and Flora
Marie Prince from Southbridge, Worcester County where he was born December 11,
1908, and with his folks in 1910 and 1920. He will be back in Worcester in the
1940.

They are both public school teachers and have been for years. He is the son of
Daniel Cady Putnam and Louise Avery from Princeton, Massachusetts. He was born
March 29, 1885 in Rutland, Massachusetts. He was at home there with his
divorced mother in 1900. He was single here in 1920 and married Sarah July 8,
1922 and they were here in 1930 and will be in 1950. Sarah was born in Pomfret,
Connecticut October 1, 1885 and will die here in Hilo in May 1953..
HENRY C. (COOPER) PUTNAM Honolulu, Oahu Island
He is
35 TX and his wife Juanita is 24 HI. He is an announcer on a radio station and
she a senior clerk in a taxi office. He is a son of Arthur Burch Putman and
Edith Mary Bishop and was born in El Paso, Texas October 31, 1904 and will die
in Boulder, Colorado February 3, 1989. His dad was a U. S. Customs agent who
died or was killed September 8, 1908. Henry was home there in 1910 and then the
family moved to Los Angeles in about 1912 and they were all there in 1920 and
1930. His dad Arthur was a son of George Putnam and Helen Burch from Jefferson
County New York. This is a Dutch family from New York.
CHARLES PUTNAM Honolulu, Oahu Island
He is
41 MA married and a machinist in the U. S. Navy. He would be the Charles listed
in the Navy in 1920 when his ship the USS Broome was in New York City. Couldn’t
figure him out then either.
CLIFFORD PUTMAN Honolulu, Oahu Island
He is a
soldier 29 TX and divorced. Clifford Floyd Putman is a son of Howard McKinney
Putman and Ola Belle Walker and was born in South Elmo, Kaufman County Texas
September 13, 1910. He married Betty Irene Stewart in California in about 1937
and they had a son Clifford Walter Putman born in 1939 and they got divorced.
He will later marry Emily Tucker and they will last forever. He will die in San
Francisco July 13, 1983. Emily will die in Medford, Oregon September 8, 1989.
Southern Putman family out of Texas and Alabama and North Carolina before that.
ERMA PUTNAM Honolulu, Oahu Island
Erma
Smith is 27 MI married and has James 2 CT with her. Her husband John Edson
Putnam is here in the Navy. He is listed shortly.
FRANK PUTMAN Honolulu, Oahu Island
He is
65 CA, his wife Mary Violet Harper Damon 52 HI and they have Geraldine A. 16
HI. He is a dermatologist. Franklin Lawrence Putman is a son of Francis Marion
Putman and Martha Jane Alexander from Colusa, California where he was born
October 7, 1873. He married Violet here November 23, 1909 and will die here
February 11, 1956. This is from his obituary: Frank L. Putnam was born October
7, 1873 in Colusa. He received his medical degree in 1902 from the University
of California Berkley. During his undergraduate days he taught in public school
and was a deputy assessor in San Francisco. He went to Hawaii in 1903 and was a
relief doctor at Kealia Plantation in Kauai and
around 1907 he was chief physician at Lihue Plantation until he joined the
military in WWI. When he got out in 1918 he joined doctor A. G. Hodgins in
Honolulu. He married Violet Harper Damon, daughter of the Reverend Frank W. Damon
in Honolulu on November 23, 1909. The Putmans had one daughter, Geraldine Putman. Dr.
Putman was a major in the Medical Corps, 4th Regiment, Hawaii National Guard.
During World War I, her served as a major in the US Army Medical Corps and was
in charge of surgery at the Fort Shafter Hospital in Honolulu. The doctor was in
general practice but devoted much of his time to surgery. He was an early
Fellow in the American College of Surgeons in 1914, a year after its founding.
He later took on dermatology and was the pioneer dermatologist of Hawaii.
FREDERICK E. (ENNIS) PUTNAM Honolulu, Oahu Island
He is
20 CT and a private in the US Army. He is Frederick Ennis Putnam a son of Julius
N. Putnam who was a son Frederick Julius Putnam and Suzanne Boiselle
and was born September 21, 1920 in Norwalk, Connecticut. His dad died June 19,
1925 and Fred was in New Haven, Connecticut with his grandparents Fred and
Suzanne in 1930. He will marry Elsie Gertrude Aninger
February 28, 1941 back in West Hartford, Connecticut. They will have a son
Frederick Frank Putnam January 9, 1943 in Hartford, Connecticut. He will die in
September 1967. Elsie will die in Petersburg, Florida December 25, 2004 after
being scared to death when Santa came down the chimney early in Christmas
morning.
J. (JOHN) EDSON PUTNAM Honolulu, Oahu Island
He is
36 MI and a sailor and electrician in the U. S. Navy. He is a son of George Binton Putnam and Cora Bell Beeman. He was born in Sciota,
Shiawassee County Michigan August 16, 1903 and will survive Pearl Harbor and
die in Ann Arbor, Michigan September 26, 1956. He married Esther L. Risinger February 21, 1925 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire
where he joined the Navy. They got divorced or something and he married Erma
Smit in San Diego, California June 10, 1932. He was very lucky to avoid Pearl
Harbor as in 1941 he will be stationed back in Groton, Connecticut where they
were before coming out here. His dad George was a son of Barnet Johnson Putman
and Melinda Cone from here in Scoita. Dutch family
from New York State originally.
JACK PUTNAM Honolulu, Oahu Island
He is
18 OH and a private in the U. S. Army. He is John Herbert Putnam a son of
Herbert John Putnam and Leila Muriel Murphy and was born in Akron, Ohio
November 1, 1921 and will die in Minford, Ohio April 19, 2001. He will marry
Martha Jane Gantz in Mogadore, Ohio July 28, 1943.
His dad is a son of Edward Howell Putnam and Frances Amelia Wicker. He was born
in Rockford, Winnebago County Illinois May 6, 1884. New England family out of
Vermont.
JOE A. (ALFRED) PUTMAN Honolulu, Oahu Island
He is
25 AR single and a corporal in the U. S. Army. He is a son of Albert B. Putman
and Lela Ann Hileman from Benton County Arkansas. He was born there in Pea
Ridge on February 2, 1915. He will marry Jessie Jane Harris soon on July 4,
1941. He is a career soldier and will retire to Lafayette, California and die
there March 23, 1987. Southern Putman family out of South Carolina to Tennessee
to Arkansas.
LARRY PUTTMAN Honolulu, Oahu Island
He is
36 NY single and boarding. He is a taxi driver. A kinda guess is that he is the
stepson of William Putnam in Ticonderoga, New York as shown in the 1920 census.
Also this Larry may have a different last name, and that is probably the case.

RALPH PUTNAM Honolulu, Oahu Island
He is
28 NC and married to Elizabeth Kukonu 28 HI and they
have Ann Barbara 4 HI and Mae Beulah 3 HI. They live with her brothers and
sisters. He is a worker in the U. S. Navy Yard. He is Ralph William Putnam a
son of Bourgoine de Estine
Putman and Laura Street and was born in Shelby, Cleveland County North Carolina
August 22, 1913 and will die back there in Shelby October 3, 1973. Elizabeth
was back there and alive when he died. Southern Putman line.

EDWIN F. PUTNAM Barbers Point Naval & Marine Air Station, Honolulu, Hawaii
He is 22 and stationed at the airbase. No clues at all. I
found a ‘possible’ with Edwin Frank Putman born November 13, 1928 in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and died March 23, 1993 in Apple Valley, San
Bernardino County California. That guy was a son of Henry Van der Veer Putman
and Ruth Marion Williams. He was shown at home, age 1, in Sharon, Mercer County
Pennsylvania. Henry was a son of Frank Vrooman Putman
and Mary Johnson from Somerset, Niagara County New York. That is a Dutch
family. Only a guess.

He is 44 NC and divorced. He is listed as a partner with four other guys. He is a son of James Monroe Putnam and Sarah Louise Bostick and was born May 27, 1905 in Ripps, Cleveland County North Carolina. He was out here long ago and married Rose Nicholas here in Oahu County January 27, 1927. They divorced and he was in Kendall, Montgomery County Alabama as a soldier in 1940. He will die here February 17, 1962.
MAX D. PUTMAN Fort Ruger Military Reservation Honolulu, Hawaii
He is 34 NC, his wife Phyllis is 29, and they have Max D.
Junior 7, Ronald A. 7 and Barbara L. HI just born in June. His WW II index
states he was born in Shelby, North Carolina June 17, 1915 and joined the
military December 18, 1941 in Camp Croft Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was
married to Phyllis then. Best guess is he is a son of Jessie Malcolm Putnam and
his third wife Evie Hughes. Jessie is
a son of William Alexander Putman and his second wife Ida Turner Wall. That Max
was at home in Shelby in 1930 at age 14 NC.
THOMAS S. (SHRYOCK) PUTNAM Honolulu, Oahu Island
He is
38 and his wife Denzil Brookman is 36 OK. They have 2
sons, John C. 2 HI and Robert C. born in March 1950. Tom was a son of Charles
Montcalm Putnam and Mary Tyne Shryock Thomas was born in Washington DC on July
21, 1910 and died December 21, 2004 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He married Denzil in Tulsa, Oklahoma May 21, 1946. His dad was a son
of Thomas Jefferson Putnam and Emma Frances Torrey from Danvers, Massachusetts.
His dad was in the Library of Congress in Washington DC for years and then died
in 1932 in Dade, Florida.
CLARENCE
E. (EDWARD) PUTNAM Kaneohe, Honolulu,
Oahu Island
He is 46 and is a fisherman. His wife Kape Rowland is 48 HI and her brother James N. Rowland 49 HI is with them. Clarence Edward Putnam was born in Burlington, Vermont November 27, 1903 and was here in 1942 as he received his draft card here then. In the 1910 Vermont census he and his brother Melvin were in the Home for Destitute Children in Burlington. Clarence was around there in 1920 as a private at Fort Ethan Allen in Colchester, Vermont. His death certificate in the Department of Veterans Affairs states he died June 6, 1983 in Hawaii. Vermont vital records states his dad was Joe Putnam. However, it appears more likely that his Melvin Putnam Lena May LaBrake. Check out their listing in 1900 in Plattsburgh, Clinton County, New York for details. Clarence Edward Putnam will die here on 6 June 1983.
RALPH PUTNAM Kilua-Lanikai,
Honolulu, Oahu Island
He is
38 NC lodging and says he is widowed. He is a worker in the U. S. Navy Yard. He
is Ralph William Putnam a son of Bourgoine de Estine Putman and Laura Street and was born in Shelby,
Cleveland County North Carolina August 22, 1913 and will die back there in
Shelby October 3, 1973. He was married to Elizabeth Kukonu
with 2 daughters here in 1940. Elizabeth was back there and alive when he died.

G. PUTMAN Paia, Maui, Hawaii
He is
41 single and born in Belgium and a minister in a Catholic church. He came from
Antwerp Belgium to New York March 30,
1909. His obit says he was born in Courtrai, Belgium and died in Honolulu
September 1987. Best I can do.
