their date and place of birth. George was born in Buffalo, New York November
22, 1875 and Lucy in Lexington, Kentucky July 20, 1880. Ditto a trip to England
in 1959. Didn’t help though, can’t find him in 1880. He was in Cleveland, Ohio
in 1910 and states his dad born New York, mom in Louisiana. He is still single
in 1920 and is a clerk with the telephone company and again says dad was New
York, mom Louisiana. But he then said he was George P. Putnam JUNIOR. I do
remember seeing the somewhat famous George Palmer Putnam in Buffalo where he
was born and with his folks in 1870. Looked at that entry and I had noted he
would be married in Raritan, New Jersey in 1880 and New York City in 1900. So,
looked at the New Jersey and by golly he was there, his wife Agnes Hall was
indeed born in Louisiana and there was this little Georgie Junior at age 4.
Think I should get a pat on the back for this one. Yeh. Anyway
George’s grandfather James Osborne Putnam was postmaster in Buffalo then State
Senator and lastly U. S. Ambassador to Belgium. He is a cousin of George Palmer
Putnam who was the owner of George Palmer Putman Publishing Company still doing
big business today. This George was still single with the phone company and
living in a Club in Chicago in 1930 so must have married Lucy in the last few
years. Wish I knew her name.
