Two of the sons of Barnet Putman of South Carolina, moved to Hall County in northeastern Georgia in the very early 1800s. They were Thomas Putman and Ezekiel Putman. This section deals with the lives and the families of these two Putmans. Both Thomas and Ezekiel remained in Georgia until their deaths. Their children, however, spread throughout the old south into Alabama, Texas, Mississippi and Arkansas.
There were several other Putman families in Georgia as shown earlier in the North Carolina and South Carolina sections. Joel and Narcissa Putman's family moved from Alabama to Spaulding County in the 1870s, one of the very few eastward movements in our family. More information on these families are included in this section.
And there were Putnams from New England as well that had settled in South Carolina in Charleston before the Revolution and then moved to Georgia. These were the families of Henry and Benjamin Putnam from Massachusetts. Information on this branch is also included in this section.
I also give information on Hosea Putman, although I am still not certain how he fits into this picture at all as you will see. I am pretty certain he is a part of the Massachusetts family, but am not positive.
I will begin with the first arrivals
