Even though Pennsylvania was populated very early on, really no members of any of the various Putnam and Putman families ventured there until the late 1700s, and none of our Southern Putnam/Putman branch went there until the late 1800s, and then only a very few.
The early listings until 1800 were all members of the German family descended from Andrew Putman (Buttman). After 1800 New Yorkers, both from the Dutch and English families, and the English New Englanders started wandering down, especially across the border with the southern tier of New York State. Some stayed, but many eventually kept heading west into Ohio and Illinois and the rest of the Mid West.
We will go on to the Census Reports from 1790 through the 1940 and cover all the various Putnam/Putman listings amended with what I know at this time.
